I originally read the book on which Dan Brown based much of The Davinci Code, which was The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail. It has in fact been added to in a new edition, no doubt to cash in on the success of Dan Brown's book.
The three authors of the latter book show that not only DaVinci had hidden meanings within his paintings. There are quite a few other books on the subject as you will find once you start following anything on subjects such as: a holy bloodline, templar treasures, the priory of Sion, the village of Rennes Le Chateau, etc. etc.
