A New Hello
#11
Hello Haven - it's great to welcome another "cat" person.  Hope all the info here helps you as it has for me.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Octahedron, thank you for the name analysis.

My two current furry buddies are Einstein and Giles (aka Sir-Pudge-A-Lot).  When I was around 3 or 4 I got this fixated on the idea that cats would keep me safe - or at least if the kitty wasn't freaked than I could probably handle whatever was happening.  Then at around 4 or 5 I had a very traumatic kitten incident which left me with this life long prime directive of *deepens voice* "I must save all cats" LOL.  This same incident also prompted my parents to procur me a kitten of my very own, and I have had cats ever since, save for a 3 year period when I first moved to CA in 2000.

Hey Haven!!

Welcome!!!
Want any more cats?? I sometimes feed this mother cat and her five kittens in my backyard. I'm scared of bringing them to the animal shelter because I'll know they'll be put down! :o/

well just thought I'd offer!
Okay peace

I wish I could!  I am already pressing the generosity of our landlord with the two I have.  Luckily he is a cat person too :big grin:.  I had Einstein when I moved in, and Giles was an abandoned Siamese that adopted us.

I know what you mean about the shelter, I used to volunteer for the Oakland SPCA.  Often it is better to leave cats in place than turn them in.  In California they actually have a "feral cats" program where one can report feral cats, and then a local "caretaker" makes sure they get fed and stuff.  They will even spay them free of charge.  Not sure about other states.  But it has really helped reduce the amount of euthanasia here.

I love cats but am waiting for one to adopt me!  I rub myself with catnip every night.

One of my friends said that cats are the only animals with a drug abuse problem...

William: P-LOL  I have this vision of cats swarming outside while you are sleeping desperately seeking the source!  There WAS a time I was trying to entice some cat to find me, and it was like a dang cat drought lol.  Then they started climbing out of the woodwork after I adopted one at the pound.  Typical. :big grin:

PP:  I am certain that the right people will show up for them with you looking out for them  .

Over the years I have had many cats, including the occasional stray, and neighbours' cats who decided to live with us instead of their owner.  Mother cats are so wonderful with their kittens, so proud as they give birth, and each one has it's own personality (just like people - sometimes I prefer the cat's company tho').  Going to the Cats' Home is heartbreaking as we know homes cannot be found for all - I would like to take them all home!

I have had a lynx as an "animal guide" for some time (sounds a bit new-agey I guess) but the feeling is very strong when I envision one.

Hope you are feeling comfortable here Haven.
