DRAMATIC film of a UFO buzzing over the British coastline sent experts into orbit today.
Holidaymakers spilled out of caravans and motorists stopped in their tracks as a mysterious cylinder hovered over a Somerset campsite.
The gleaming grey object can be clearly seen against the cloudless blue sky.
It has no visible sign of power ââ¬â yet does not appear to be falling to earth.
Local police reported no unusual activity but witnesses were left convinced they had seen an extra-terrestrial spectacle.
The unearthly incident happened around 1pm on a sunny day last July, when tourists at a holiday park at Brean, nr Burnham-on-Sea, spotted the object.
One grabbed his video camera and managed to capture its strange, erratic movements in the sky.
The amazing video was shot at the height of the tourist season and stopped hundreds of holidaymakers in their tracks.
But it only emerged earlier today after it was sent anonymously to local news website http://www.burnham-on-sea.com.
UFO expert Malcolm Robinson said the object was "totally consistent" with other sightings.
Malcolm, who runs UFO group Strange Phenomena Investigations, said: "This video of a UFO is clearly very exciting.
"While UFOs are commonly thought to be spherical in shape, we receive dozens of calls from people who have spotted similar cylinder-shaped objects.
"There is, of course, an argument that this could be a weather balloon or some other common object.
"But my research has shown that it is totally consistent with other UFO sightings, none of which have been hoaxes or naturally-occurring phenomenon."
The footage has since been uploaded on to video sharing website YouTube, where it has sparked fierce debate.
One user claims it was a "high altitude observation balloon payload" but another argues it is actually much bigger because it appears higher than a plane.
A month earlier there was a report of another mystery object in the skies over Brean.
Local coastguards were sent to search the nearby coastline after sightings of a mystery parachute and canister but they were never found.
The latest sighting comes just a week after the Ministry of Defence revealed that the number of UFO reports across Britain dramatically increased last year.
They included a mystery object spotted over Parliament and another sinister sighting by a police officer in Essex.
