Rock Lore & Tidbits: Crushed amethyst was used by the Ancient Romans as a way to ward off intoxication. They word amethyst comes from the Greek word "amethystus" meaning not drunken, or intoxicated. And there is a Greek legend of how amethyst got its purple color. Once, Dionysis (diety of wine and mischief) was so annoyed by Artemis (a virgin huntress and Lunar deity) that he set his sacred tigers upon a maiden attending her shrine. To preserve the maiden, whose name was Amethyst, Artemis petrified her in sparkling quartz. Lamenting this virgin's demise, Dionysis poured a the contents of his cup over the statue, which immediately became infused with the purple of the grape.

do you use this stone or any others...and if so what do you find of it/what are your experiences with it.

I prefer onyx, it's my stone, but I like amethyst too.
The problem is that onyx collects a lot of energy, especially negative energy, so I can't wear it all the time.
Amethyst gives me psyhical stability and balance, I feel safe when I wear it. Thanks God, I haven't had any problems with health so far, except problems with tonsils,but I used rock crystal and it helped me.

I have an amethyst cluster on my nightstand and I find that it is very calming. Since placing it there I have not only experienced exceptional peace, tranquility and serenity but I have been able to stop smoking as well.

That's interesting that the amethyst helped you stop smoking. I wouldn't have thought it would work for that.

Amethyst is my natural stone, and I have just found a perfect one! :D It literally drew me into the store. Amethyst also gives emotional stability, and helps focus the mind - therefore giving manifestation to thought. If you can focus your mind and thought through amethyst, you can materialize almost anything. Also it is good for reflecting upon yourself, your thoughts and actions, it helps separate and clean them. It can also enable you to see different dimensions and realities. It likes to be put into salt water and left under a plant of the same color, I forgot how to say it in English, on the night of the full moon. Treat it as if you would a friend, connect with it and surround the two of you with love. The results are amazing. :)
