Are we missing a dimension of time?

Could "hypertime" help develop a theory of everything? Roger Highfield reports

A scientist has put forward the bizarre suggestion that there are two dimensions of time, not the one that we are all familiar with, and even proposed a way to test his heretical idea next year.

ï‚·  Itzhak Bars explains two time physics

Time is no longer a simple line from the past to the future, in a four dimensional world consisting of three dimensions of space and one of time. Instead, the physicist envisages the passage of history as curves embedded in a six dimensions, with four of space and two of time.

"There isn't just one dimension of time," Itzhak Bars of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles tells New Scientist. "There are two. One whole dimension of time and another of space have until now gone entirely unnoticed by us."

Bars claims his theory of "two time physics", which he has developed over more than a decade, can help solve problems with current theories of the cosmos and, crucially, has true predictive power that can be tested in a forthcoming particle physics experiment.

If it is confirmed, it could point the way to a "theory of everything" that unites all the physical laws of the universe into one, notably general relativity that governs gravity and the large scale structure of the universe, and quantum theory that rules the subatomic world.

In the quest for that all embracing theory, scientists have been adding extra dimensions of space to their equations for decades. As early as the 1920s, mathematicians found that moving up to four dimensions of space, instead of the three we experience, helped in their quest to reconcile theories of electromagnetism and gravity.

Today, theoreticians are studying a theory of everything called M-theory that adds yet another dimension, taking the total to 11: 10 of space and one of time.

Until now, they have been reluctant to meddle with time because it can lead to unexpected consequences, such as time travel.

Changing our picture of time from a line to a plane (one to two dimensions) means that the path between the past and future could loop back on itself, allowing you to travel back and forwards in time and allowing the famous grandfather paradox, where you could go back and kill your grandfather before your mother was born, thereby preventing your own birth.

Bars first found hints of an extra time dimension in M-theory in 1995 and, when he looked into it, discovered the grandfather paradox and other fears could be overcome by using a new kind of symmetry - a mathematical property to work out the relationship between the quantities of position and momentum. It is this symmetry that might help reconcile the two mighty pillars of 20th-century physics, quantum mechanics and relativity.

Simply adding an extra dimension of time doesn't solve everything, however. To produce equations that work with the new symmetry that describe the world accurately, an additional dimension of space is needed as well, giving a total of four space dimensions, he explained in the journal Physical Review D.

According to Bars, the familiar four dimensional world we see around us is merely a "shadow" of the six-dimensional reality, just as a hand makes many different shadows on a wall when lit from different angles.

Although we cannot experience the extra time dimension directly, we can effectively notice it through the different perspectives of the different "shadows".

In this sense, he points to already existing evidence of physical phenomena at both macroscopic and microscopic scales. Furthermore, he believes that more evidence for his theory could emerge next year, when particles are smashed together in CERN's Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland to create hitherto unseen "supersymmetric" particles.

The work poses a question: is his proposal a mathematical fix, rather than a real physical entity?

Bars insists his extra dimensions are more than mathematical sleight of hand. "Absolutely not," he told New Scientist. "These extra dimensions are out there, as real as the three dimensions of space and one of time we experience directly."

If you believe in the multiple universes and multiple scenarios theory, it just gets weirder and yet more complicated.
I'm having enough trouble just managing THIS reality!

I think that we will see more of these types of articles about time, I seen an interesting bank ad on the TV, and set up in an auction house and people are bidding on time, one person is willing to pay $35,000. For 6 minutes.
Time no longer has the influence it once did, and we must remember that time, as we know it, is a fabrication from man. It limits us to routine and ritual, going to work, school, bed, eating and all things in our daily life.
Time will soon feel irrelevant to those who follow the universal flow to the change in consciousness, the first signs are feeling light, a little dizzy even like you are going to fall over, but not vertigo, and less restriction or dedication to time, not making a fuss over it. Noticing the little things in life also enhances the subtle body and your doorway to universal awareness. Good article Richard.

There is more to this than meets the eye.

To cut a long story short, this guy is on the mark. I understand everything he is saying and have been posting about it before regarding alternate timelines with reference to String theory. The day will come when all this has been fully verified scientifically, mark my words.

The interesting thing is that in any given timeline, although we have an infinite amount of other timelines running parallel with our own that depict ALL and EVERY other possible outcomes in our existence other than the one we are experiencing or are consciously focusing on (etc etc all the way up the dimensional levels as they too have just as many possible outcomes or timelines each, until we reach the highest level, which is CREATION itself and become 'into it' whereupon all time and all happenings occurs simultaneously in its 'Oneness'), there is 1 more MAIN timeline that has MOST relevance to our own when compared to all the others going on. This on is related to our current one so much that it can be infact considered as being LINKED to it in a sort of physical sense. Thereby allowing us to create and form HARDENED mathematical formulas directly linking the 2 which is what gives us the '2T' scope which Mr. Bars is referring to in his journal/paper.

In layman’s terms, the reason it is so heavily linked 'as such' to our existing or currently focused on timeline is that it is the one which is the most LIKE the one we are in current. IOW, it is the one with the minimal level or amount of difference to the one we current know or find ourselves in... where perhaps only '1 main or slight' thing is different, or the 'minimal possible things' are different... if you know what I mean. Consequentially from what I can gather they are also the 2 timelines that we need to reference to then be able to go UP another level of timeline or dimension easier than we could by attempting to do it using any other one with respect to the one we are in now.

...which then further complicates things in a sense, in that we cannot have any direct input into the outcome of any other timeline in this level of existence until such time as we are elevated TWO higher levels or dimensions of Time, which is at least '2 orders' higher than the one we are in now. Which equates to "whatever will be will be" and that we have no capabability on altering this timeline we are on until we go 2 levels higher up the dimensional scale. Which means that while we exist in this or any other given timeline in  this dimension, nothing can alter what is 'to be' in it UNTIL such times as we are elevated through the 'appropriate increase of level of consciousness' and allowed access of existence into timelines that are 2 or more levels above the one we are on NOW.  The same applies no matter which level of dimension we are on; we can only alter the ones that are at least 2 levels or more below us, and NOT the one directly below us NOR the one we are on at that time.

This, they have already proven Mathematically in the last year. It is no longer a theorem or possibility; it is proven as fact mathematically using the principles of String Theory.

But what Mr. Bars is referring to is only the 'first or surface' level of it all regarding being able to DIRECTLY physically link the other most relevant Timeline with ours in such a way that if we are to accurately predict anything that occurs in our lifetime at a major or sub atomically level mathematically that we MUST take into account the 'other' most crucial timeline that we are linked to also. Thereby creating the '2T' denominator/factor to use in all future equations and calculations for precise mathematical and or Physics quantifications.

In a nutshell, science is now catching up to spirituality at a fast rate... well, faster than ever before, as it is now starting to link all our known spiritual beliefs and understandings with itself.

This is an incredible shifting of the human consciousness that is occurring before our very eyes, yet very few have realized it. Where once people of spirituality were or may have been considered as being "off with the ferries" by rational thinking fools, we are now coming into the age where those who do not believe in spirituality are the ones who are actually "off with the ferries". As would be the case with anyone telling you that 1 + 2 does not equal 3; it is really that simple.

Everyone on this forum should understand that what is happening here is that SCIENCE is starting to acknowledge what we all knew to be FACT from long before it did.

HowzThat? :big grin:
