Atheism - Your Opinion?
#1
For anyone who surfs forums of general discussions or is online frequently, you would know that the majority of forum posters/internet junkies are followers of science and are big time Atheists and reject anything outside of mainstream science. Of course, this does not apply to everyone, because there are Christian/Buddhist/Taoist/Etc. forums out there. But what I always wonder is why? It seems to me that the amount of Atheists in the U.S. is rising at a rediculous rate, and not to mention, most of Scandinavia is predominantly Atheistic in their beliefs.

What I find the most ironic part of this is that Atheists/followers of mainstream science believe we came from a single celled organism, but yet, they do NOT believe in miracles. Tell me, how is life on this planet anything BUT a miracle in those terms? The chances of a bipedal human evolving from a single celled organism are extremely miniscule.  Holy Sir Fred(big support of evolution) stated it's about as likely as 1050 blind people turning a scrambled rubix cube at random, and all 1050 blind people arriving at the solution simultaneously. It isn't even logical to think such a feat could be accomplished.

I saw a recent poll on the news and their results claim that close to 75% of US citizens consider themselves Christian. So maybe atheists are more vocal and that makes it appear like that they are the majority of net users.

That is true. However, the majority of the scientific establishment is Atheist, and these are who the modern day people go to and admire, so it has a big impact on the public. For example, Einstein declared himself to be Atheist in his later years, and since some people refer to him being the most intelligent man this world has ever known, they believe he must be correct.

Oh, and there was recently a study done between the correlation between religion and IQ. Atheists use this study to "prove" they're right and/or more elite than others, because the study showed people with higher IQ's weren't religious or followed a religion.

It’s true that the majority of the scientific establishment is atheist but I don’t think they have much impact on the general public since most people still believe in creation. I read that atheists hate being the minority and they hate the fact that every president has been Christian. I saw on the news that they want a committee to be formed to try and get an atheist elected. They also keep failing to remove “in god we trust” off money too.

I guess this is just from my experience then. I know many who were raised Christian(such as myself) who turned to Atheism so they could get away from the dogma. The only problem is Atheism isn't any less dogmatic than Christianity.

The scientific establishment didn't have an impact on people in the earlier days, but I personally see an increase in followers of evolution now more than ever. There wasn't much talk of evolution or Atheism a decade ago, but now we have Richard Dawkins(the "pope" of Atheism) who has a personal vendetta against the catholic church(not that I blame him).

How do you define atheism?  Is this some dogmatic group of which I have no knowledge?  Is there an organized group complete with creed?  Or is this just some general lumping together of any person that does not believe in a monotheistic-type god?  The closest group I can think of is a group of humanists that have their own manifesto.

Am I one of these rabid atheists that believes as these others do?  I think not.  But maybe I'm not really an atheist, either.  While I do not believe in any god or goddess, neither do I worship science.  If there is anything I worship, it is the earth and sky and all that is in it.  Does that lump me in with these atheists?

I should have been clearer. I mean Atheists who reject anything outside of mainstream science and reject the thought of anything spiritual, or perhaps even dismiss the idea of collective conscience, cosmic intelligence, etc.

If you define Atheism as not believing in a monotheistic God, than I would think the majority of folks here are Atheists, including me.

I know a couple of atheists and they do not want to belong, they are very individual and independent, very private and emotionally cold, and their god is money. They work hard, yet understand society in the same form as a Christian, or even as we do here on the forum they see the government, religion for its truth, but they hate paying tax and especially hate people on social security, they feel their tax money supports these people. They do not want to support anyone financially; they have no children as they are considered a useless commodity.
Yet these people have this energy of attraction, they are brutally honest with people, and have this way of understanding the personality, they say stuff that people want to say but don’t. The two I know do believe in some supernatural things, but have built their lives on the truth of what they see and for some of us we see it as tragedy, suffering and victims.
I think atheism is another belief system just like any other, and basically a different form of opinion to that famous question – ‘what is the meaning of life?’

Well said Astrojewels. Personally when I was in my Atheism stage, I found myself to be angrier and very apathetic to people and world events. If we were all just one meaningless accident, then love, fear, hate, anger, guilt, right and wrong, etc. are just figments of our imagination.

And yes, Atheism is just another belief system. Surprisingly, some Atheists don't like it being called that, they call it a lack of belief. Which leads me to another question: is what we talk about here just another belief system, or is it truth?

Some of us here read Stewart's hyperspace books and practice these techniques to communicate with God, but are we really communicating with God or is just a belief system?

If you were to tell your average Joe about hyperspace, archetypes, oversoul techniques, etc. he'd just say that's your belief system, but is it? I haven't tried or bought any hyperspace books(yet) from Stewart, but I'd like someone who has tried his techniques to give their input.

I personally do not believe in god, and I never really have, I have researched and been very open minded in my journey to the why, what and how god has control of so many. I first wondered why god would be given a male gender, because life is only produced through the balance of male/female so wouldn’t god be both as he is the creator of all things. Then the usual of why would god punish bla bla, all that jazz!
What we talk about here is my truth, but may not be yours, but what directed you here? Why are you attracted to us? And what must you learn through sharing your energy of thought with ours?
How do you find your truth is really the god seeking question, because like you say if you discuss your beliefs with another, they will oppose, it is human nature to do so. Yet when you are within your truth, the opposing side becomes minimal, you begin to only attract those with meaningful purpose to aid your journey, because life is so miraculous, we humans are so perfect in our form, yet we take advantage of what we have and prefer to focus on what we do not.
You can search for a leader, to teach you techniques, but does this make you a victim because you give control of your greatest asset to another? We need others to support and listen, to offer advice even if we do not take it, but we should not look for others to lead or follow us, if we are to unite then we must share and give equally.
My god has the female energy of Mother Nature, birth, bird’s bees, animals and plants, love and miracles. The male energy is the sun and all the planets that the female energy requires for existence because they both equally require one another for survival.
