A father and daughter have confessed to having a long-term sexual relationship which has resulted in the birth of a child.
Jenny Deaves, 39, appeared on Australian television programme Sixty Minutes last night, holding her nine-month-old daughter Celeste.
Her father John, 61, sat beside her, holding the infant, who is both his daughter and granddaughter.
The story of their bizarre coupling emerged after a court in South Australia found them guilty of incest last month and ordered they cease their sexual relationship, placing them on a three-year, good behaviour bond.
Miss Deaves was just a year old when her father left her mother and it was 30 years before they were reunited.
At the time, both she and her father were in crumbling relationships and she soon began to see Mr Deaves a man first, and her father second.
"I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he's not too bad," she said. "Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub.
"John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults. We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding."
She has two children from a previous relationship.
Mr Deaves said at first he thought having sex with his daughter was wrong, but said the relationship was "absolutely fantastic".
"As people no doubt realise, there are times during your life where emotions do rule the heart, it rules the head," he said.
"I knew it was illegal, of course I knew it was illegal but you know, so what."
The couple claimed they had ended the sexual side of their relationship because they risked going to prison.
"We will continue living as a normal, happy family for years to come," Miss Deaves said. A police spokesman said they "were being monitored".
An American psychologist told Sixty Minutes that the incident was a case of "genetic sexual attraction".
The phenomenon was not rare, and society would be surprised at how prevalent it was, he said.
