Australians cook up wild cat stew
#11
The only way I could ever consider eating a cat would be if I was literally starving to death and there was no other food available and even then I would likely pause for a long time.  The gag reflex would probably kick in.  :-)  Tree bark sounds more appetizing right now.  I love cats and my emotions would battle with the need for food.

The feral cat issue is one that is a sensitive topic with me. This time last summer we had over 40  yes f-o-r-t-y!!! feral cats on the property. This was the result of someone dropping off a couple of females and then the neighbor had a male cat that he refused to neuter or contain. It was a nightmare!I  have a soft spot for any living creature except ticks, fleas, and flies so killing them was not an option . The shelter will only take a certain number ,3 or 4, and if they are not socilaized or "cute" they will be put down. So I spent a lot of time socializing the cats and trying to keep them healthy. I ended up getting over 20 neutered and found homes for most of those. I did take @ 9 to the shelter and the rest I had neutered as well and they are our barn cats. Needless to say we do not have a rodent problem.Someone dropped off a female kitten a few weeks ago. She was pretty much a mess but with a little care she got well and I was able to find a home for her last Friday.

I ,too, would have to be near death before I could kill one and eat it.Even then I wonder...?

You guys know they should be cooked in red wine right?

The tannins in the wine help to subdue the "gamey" quality of the meat. I find wildcat stew best served with a sweet and sour sauce, it really offsets the strong quality of the meat.

The best dessert to follow up this type of meal is stuffed quail eggs and strawberries in a cranberry sauce, smothered in whipped cream.

LOL!  I'll make sure to keep some red wine on hand just in case.  :-)

Tree bark is still sounding pretty good in comparison.  :-)
