Police in Neenah, Wisconsin, have evacuated homes and businesses in an active shooter and possible hostage situation. The incident took place near Eagle Nation Cycles.
Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert said 30 or more shots were fired in the incident. He said one person has already been taken to a local hospital and that there are people in the basement of the cycle shop. There are also firearms in the building, he said.
Police said a man waked into the store and fired a weapon, WBAY-TV in Green Bay reported. One hospital was on alert to receive two patients, it reported.
Witnesses posted what they knew on Twitter
“Guns still drawn. Just saw SWAT officer on move. One victim to hospital. May be two in basement of motorcycle shop now,” tweeted Phil Cianciola.
“Suspect trying to bait police officers,” tweeted Shelly Moore.
Police said officers were in the the 200 block of Main Street because of a “high risk incident” police were monitoring.
Police advised residents outside the immediate area to stay away as they tried to maintain order. Those in the immediate area were advised to shelter in place away from windows or in a basement if possible.
“If you reside within 1/4 mile radius from Main St./Doty,” the Neenah Police Department said in an alert. “Shots have been fired.”
