Computer Problems
#1
Hello all,

Just wanted to let you all know that Richard will not be on the forum for a few days (hopefully just a few). Something got to his computer while we were sleeping and completely destroyed it.  He has to go shopping for a whole new computer now. He was able to do a virus scan and it showed up nothing - no viruses, no spyware - it just won't let him get online and wiped out his whole desktop!

I may be overly paranoid here, but I think someone is trying to send us a message. For the past week I have been having 'strange' things happen to my computer too. My desktop keeps on changing around, my homepage keeps on changing from Hyperspace Cafe to a porn site! I don't know what is going on.

Anyway...we just wanted to let you all know what is going on.

Sorry to hear that!  I hope Richard finds a killer deal on a great computer he really wants, so this becomes a positive

Dreamtime,

Something very similar happened to my computer within the month. The desktop moving around was a bit freaky!! Like Richard's there were no viruses or spyware.I don't frequent myspace.com but my daughter did use this computer to do so. I've been told that there are worms one can pick up from  myspace.

Yes, my computer was having the same issues.  There were problems with files being in the wrong folders, internet connection not working, computer not turning on/off properly.  Eventually, one day about two weeks ago, the whole thing crashed.  The hard drive was screwed, so we had to get a new one.  My files, and those of one other person in my family, had been encrypted and locked, and the technician has only just cracked into them to retrieve the info.

Thanks for the heads up on myspace.com.  I have used it somewhat, for keeping in touch.  It would make sense for it to be used as a host for parasites, and it is so widereaching.  Personally I see it in general as a tool to connect programmed people, and also keep an eye on them.  It would be interesting, statistically, to see what proportion of people on there are specifically programmed, compared to the world percentage.:evil::big grin:

Well, I also think that computer issues/communication is being messed with a lot these days anyway.  I guess it shows how many secret 'Windows' and backdoors the programmers and illuminati have to our machines... lol. Sighs... :mad2::confused2::cool2::smirk::slywink:Rolleyes:ninja::lol::discust::crybaby::shock::?:):D:P:big grin:Angry:thumbsup::thumbsdown::dude::frown::X;)

Thanks all for the care. Richard went out tonight and got a new computer, but now comes the headache of trying to get that one all configured. He doesn't know what happened to his other computer. He has 3 different virus/spyware detection programs and none of them could find anything wrong. He has a laptop and it is 3 years old...so we don't know if it just 'wore out' or if something else happened. The funny thing is, just about a month ago his hard drive crashed on the old computer and we had to get a new hard drive to put in it. So we know it couldn't have been the hard drive that went bad.

Mercy Now: Richard does not go onto MySpace at all, but I do once in a while because my girls all have sites there and I check in to see what goofy stuff they have to say to me. icon_computer  I guess now I will have to be on the lookout for any strange stuff they may put on. Maybe I'll just stay away from it for awhile and see what happens. I think it's terrible if something like that does happen though. All those people they have on there. Someone should do something. gw_2ranger

Violet Eagle: First of all...welcome back. We haven't heard from you in awhile.  I don't really know how you can protect yourself from things happening other than to make sure you have some kind of virus protection and spyware detection on your computer.  Personally, I do keep a piece of fluorite on my computer for a little 'extra' help. gw_2mesmer

William crawls out from under his desk................

DT - Tell Richard to look and note where his jumpers are on his crashed computer hard drive if he still has it.  About 2 weeks ago my computer crashed.  I looked at the hard drive and noticed that the jumper on my main hard drive was set to slave instead of master.   Now I could of set it wrong but it was working fine for months!  So that kinda freeeked me out.  I set the jumper back to master and all is fine.  But a super geek like me to set the main hard drive on slave is unconsionable!!   I must go whip myself 40 lashes with a hard drive cable for this.  icon_headbash

Routers in your set up are spose to help some.  Any geeks here know if this is true?

Dreamtime,

I use myspace to check up on my daughter too.LOL!! I don't care how old she is on some level because she chose me as her birth mother she agreed to me always being her MOM!!:slywink: On the physical anyway.

William,

How does one check their "jumper" ?

Mercy now.   A jumper is a little doodad on the hard drive.  Its a switch to tell the hardrive if it will be a slave drive or a master drive.  You should not have to worry about your jumpers if all is working fine.  But, if someone wanted to copy your hard drive then they would pull out your hard drive and change the jumper to slave so they can copy all of its contents to their machine.  Thats one way.    So from my experience a master hard drive can run for awhile set in slave position then one day fail............. mmmm  but I would set the Bios to see the hard drive in master position so it does not make sense that my drive was jumpered in slave.....  But it could still work though........  Me head hurts!  (dont worry I confuse myself)
