I donââ¬â¢t know if this goes for everyone, but talking about the nursery rhymes made me think that when I was a kid, I would do just about anything to be scared, I would actually look for it, or put myself in positions where I would be frightened and then my friends and I would laugh about how scared we all were, but as adults we avoid being scared at all costs, thoughts anyone?

Children stories, songs, etc. can be programming techniques. Children stop reacting to them because they are desensitized but the fear and negativity are always in the subconcious. I just can't think of any other reason why nursery rhymes and things geared to children are not happy stories without violence (watch their cartoons).....???????

BlueMoon, The original nursery rhymes as I mentioned were political satire and/or comment. At the time they originated most people neither read nor wrote. Thus the tradition of bards/storytellers. Like all master/slave situations information is controlled. Those working class/peasants who had access to information needed a way to to convey to the masses the info, issues ,conditions etc. at hand. I would think a few were coded to an extent but they weren't specifically designed for programming such as we have come to know it. To be sure I know of one or two that were later ,in the 20th century, used in specific programming.
On another note it is a positive thing to be conscious of what and how often we expose our children or are exposed ourselves to.
You might be surprised at who allow their children to do or have just what they have criticized publicly.:?
This is my issue with the understanding of programming as many who visit this website(no fault of this site) have come to view it or understand it. It leads to ,and IMO deliberately so, a degree of paranoia and fear that keeps the individual off center and thus easily controlled. IMO it would greatly benefit folks to do a study of herd /family behavior in cattle, sheep, wolves etc. Any species that is social . I can assure you that the programmers have done just that and even some have even spent a great deal of time working with such critters.
AJ: I don't know about everyone, but I still like to be scared. Guess that's why I like horror movies - but not the slash and gore ones. They are just gross, not scary.

DT,
Why do you think that you like being scared? What makes us want to be frightened? It is an interesting subject, do you think it is the after affect of actually being scared that we look for?

I hate being scared. I used to get so tense watching horror and deeply intense (example--Silence of the Lambs)mind game movies, that I completely stopped watching all of them. A couple bothered me for days. AJ, your theory is a good one but I don't think it applies to me. The after effect of being frightened is disturbing for me.
I don't know why. I don't know why I like disaster movies either. I always tell Richard it is because I like to learn how to survive different things - and you know what - I think that is why I watch those movies. Maybe?

Bluemoon,
Yes you are right, I believe there are two types of ââ¬Ëafter fearââ¬â¢ the ones who laugh after being frightened and actually enjoy it, but then there is the other ââ¬Ëafter fearââ¬â¢ that can make you angry, or more scared before you actually got a fright, your heart beating a hundred miles and the picture of what scared you remains in your thoughts. my daughter has an incredible fear of spiders and please we live in the country where spiders are as big as your hand, I also do not like spiders but I have tried to work on her overcoming this fear, she is getting better and not afraid of small ones, just the big ugly ones, but the ââ¬Ëafter fearââ¬â¢ is fear like you have never seen, the scream just rips through your whole inside, it is like she is going to die, and like you say very disturbing.
DT,
Do you think disaster movies create fear? They usually have a good ending and the US is always the country that saves the world, I can understand your answer and it makes sense to me, but they are not horror are they?
Oh yes, AJ, I do think that disaster movies create fear in people. I think it creates the basic fear in all of us. The fear of something you can not control - nature. But, I also do like regular horror movies as long as there is not too much blood and guts. I like more psycological horror.
Oh and BTW: I also HATE spiders. I think I would really freak out at your house.

I remember freaking out at a disney movie at young age, pluto was playing around some place and he was walking along. Something was following him, and as he reached a mirror a big angry tiger stared back at him:D I got seriously spooked. So did pluto and he walked on while the tiger started to sneak up behind him, I remember the tigers eyes scared me a great deal:)
And sharks, always had a fear of sharks:? It has calmed down since getting access to animal planet though..Sneaky creatures
Is it not the same thing as with rollercoasters, exitement?
