Coronal Mass Ejection from our Sun

NEW ERUPTION: During the waning hours of Sept. 10th, a magnetic filament in the sun's northern hemisphere erupted: SDO movie. Unlike other recent eruptions on the sun, this one might affect Earth. Beacon data from NASA's twin STEREO spacecraft show a bright coronal mass ejection (CME) racing away from the blast site. The cloud could hit our planet's magnetic field in about two days.
