High-roller has bad feng shui in US casino: report

TAIPEI (AFP) – A Taiwanese man who lost two million US dollars in Las Vegas is threatening to sue the casino for using feng shui to cause his losing streak, a report here said.

The man, surnamed Yuan, alleged that the Venetian dug a one-metre (40-inch) square hole on the wall of the presidential suite he was staying in April last year and covered it with a black cloth, said Apple Daily.

The casino also put two white towels in front of Yuan's suite and turned on two large fans facing his room without notifying him, it said.

Yuan claimed that his luck turned bad after discovering the arrangements and that he went from winning 400,000 dollars to losing two million, the report said.

"We Chinese drape black and white cloths only when there is a death in the family. It is such a taboo for regular people, let alone for the gamblers," he was quoted as saying.

Yuan filed a complaint against the Venetian after returning to Taiwan and demanded the cancellation of a two-million-dollar debt to the casino, half of it on credit, it said.

The casino has promised to refund him 100,000 dollars in cash and the same amount in chips, the paper said, without explaining why it had agreed to this.

Yuan had notified the Venetian through his lawyer of his intention to sue for feng shui sabotage if the casino fails to come up with a "reasonable solution," it said.

Feng shui, or wind and water, is an ancient Chinese belief that seeks to channel good and bad psychic energy through the arrangement of furniture and ornaments.

There are some common feng shui taboos among Taiwanese gamblers, such as bringing a hair brush to a gambling table as "brush" is a homophone of "lose," the report said.

Anything is convenient to 'blame' a bad stroke of luck.

Maybe that idiot should have checked the premises for 'good feng shui' before sitting down in a casino that wasn't to his 'feng shui' superstitious "tastes".icon_skeptisch

Or he should've just stopped his greedy game as long as he didn't notice anything 'wrong' with the energy flow...  Silly man! He should just own up to his gambling addiction.:?

There is no such thing as 'luck' in casinos... but even if he takes this matter to court he will LOSE big time. He's already admitted that he himself knew about the bad luck feng shui ploy that they had implemented. The matter would be thrown out of court on the grounds that he should NOT have participated having already being aware of such things. Then that leaves him open to a counter sue by the casino to salvage all their legal expenses in defending the matter; which would no doubt be blown right out of proportion and kept by their legal department for a grand Xmas party and a house for the chairperson.lolol

If he wanted to stand a chance in successfully sueing them he should have organized it so that some one ELSE made him aware of such hokus-pokas after the fact... after he lost the money. Not that a judge would ever take such a thing serious even he thought it had any substance in it as that would set precident for many other ploys used by all casinos.

Everyone is told that casinos are all rigged, they are even told this by casino management, yet they still go in and expect to make millions. This is ignorance and denial at its best; he deserved what he got in way... especially if he'd confessed as to how he obtained the money; either through vise or the misery of many grossly underpaid workers.

So I'll say it again...

In this life, all is paid for.
