The poor marketer can not help, but he is paid for this nonsense, so you don't have to feel guilty about this.

It's an example of the time waste conspiracy:

despite all the digital tools we have we actually loose time with them, this is because the Illuminati want us not using our time for serious things like peace and pure thinking on for our own:

- reading unreadable manuals

- studying weeks on software which is obsolete within 3 years

- driving comfortable with car-navigation systems sitting in the traffic jam for hours. 

- junkmail, viagra spam, telemarketers

- power fall-outs

- inaccessable internet services etc etc.

I agree totally, but I would go back even farther - vaccuum cleaners so we can clean our carpets that we don't need, washing machines so we can clean all of our clothes if we so much as put them on, yard tools so we can have that perfectly-manicured lawn, etc., etc.!  June Cleaver's closets had every towel folded at the 4 corners!  My mother used to make me iron all of the bedsheets and my stepfather's underwear (with creases!) and hankies!

Very good question Gertrudarose, and one I am sure that everyone should think about, but ironing underwear that is totally weird! Many years ago I worked for a women who was totally obsessed with money, and she would take her earnings and wash, dry, and then iron it, and she would say it was to get everyone’s germs off it, and she washed away everyone’s need to spend.
Gadgets can be fun, and they do make life easier, but when DT’s daughter was here she thought it was cool that we hang our clothes to dry outside on the line, the ‘hills hoist’ a total aussie invention, and personally I love the smell of fresh washed clothes dried in the sun, and it is good for the environment as clothes dryers use a great deal of energy. When I was in the US, I was told only low-class people hang their clothes outside.
The way I look at gadgets is for what they are- machines, so they will break down, they will mechanically go wrong, and modern times make many things disposable so you have to buy more.
I know many people who are their possessions!

hey everyone..I enjoyed everyone's posts!!

I think its good that Get Boldened listed some things here to help us figure out what to do or say when it comes to those telemarketers. I do know people like Pollys bf who would test telemarketers or just play around with them. telemarketers get paid ten dollars(a bit more than minimum wage) or more per an hour and I'm sure they quit their jobs frequently(because its a demanding job) and are replaced by newer peope who are novice or accustomed to this type of selling or even really love having people hang up on them before they finish their sales..lol.
my cousin said that she would not give them a chance if the name wasn't pronounced right--she literally would hang up after saying"Get the name right or that persons not here".

I would just try to be polite because I know if i was on the other end of the job and not in full understanding of myself, I'd be upset with the harsh comments that customers would say to me. I usually say,"I dont have the time right now, please call back later".

However, i rarely even bother to pick up the landline phone at all!! its my cell phone all the way--I know my friends call..my cell..not these telemarketers!!!!

I find it amusing that William asks for their home numbers lol. :o)

there was one time when my dad saw the jehovah's witnesses coming to our door..he had found a dollar bill nearby,then quickly opened the door,gave it to them(said "here,take it"!), and
slammed the door on their faces too.

yeah i agree there when it comes to purchasing items that you know will go obsolete or non-functioning in sometime--I dread thats where my money's going but then years ago I would question money. I never wanted to be one of those people who are after the money--yet I certainly don't want to be broke and unable to even afford my own life here!!

I find it funny that AJ said she knows someone who ironed their money? lol. wow...

I can't stand the auto dialers. Computers that just dial ph #'s and play a msg or connect upon pickup.

The Do not call list is junk. In fact I think they sell the info, as with most phone business based companies to others who'll call you. as well if you change your number [unlisted or not] they still call.

I just say not interested, firmly. Then hang up.

I used to work in a phone center [not like this, more like you call us and we'll eventually hang up on you if you're rude etc.] so I know how some things work.

Asking for a supervisor is like aural holy water. Shuts em' right down..

Whenever they called me, I'd say, "I'm on the Do-Not-Call List", and they hang up.

Or you can talk in another language or say something gibberish. They will hang up.
