As far as I understood The Secret, the most important thing is to think positive (that not being non-negative, such as "I don't want bills in my mail", but purely positive such as "There will be / there are checks in my mail"). It seems to me that the techniques described there are not quite strict. You should rather use your creativity and develop techniques that work best for you (the techniques that most successfully make you think positive).
