Is Britney on the Brink of Suicide?

Spears taken from her home in ambulance

By KEITH ST. CLAIR, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 46 minutes ago

Britney Spears was taken from her home by ambulance early Thursday and escorted to the hospital by more than a dozen police officers in cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters.

A Los Angeles police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said the 26-year-old pop star was being taken to the hospital to "get help." The Los Angeles Times cited unidentified authorities who said Spears was being placed on a "mental evaluation hold."

Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where her mother, Lynne, was seen leaving its psychiatric hospital at about 5:30 a.m.

When asked by a throng of paparazzi and reporters whether Britney was doing all right, Lynne Spears replied, "Yeah," before leaving in a Range Rover.

Hours earlier, shortly after 1 a.m., the motorcade that pulled away from Spears' residence was nearly the length of a football field. Along with the ambulance, it included police on nearly a dozen motorcycles and in two cruisers. Two police helicopters followed overhead.

The scene was more controlled than the one earlier this month when Spears also was taken away from her home in an ambulance.

On Jan. 3, police were called to her home when she refused to return her two young sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, to ex-husband Kevin Federline, who has custody.

Officers had paramedics haul Spears to a hospital for undisclosed reasons. She was released after a day and a half in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Police also went to Spears' hilltop residence off Mulholland Drive on Monday night after someone reported a swarm of paparazzi trespassing in the singer's gated community. When officers arrived, they didn't see anyone trespassing, police said, but citations were issued for several illegally parked cars.

Spears has been in a highly public downward spiral since filing for divorce from Federline in November 2006.

Her bizarre antics include shaving her head bald, attacking a car with an umbrella and bringing along a paparazzo pal on trips to a courthouse in her child custody case.

Spears' child custody case has become a public spectacle, with her skipping depositions and twice this month arriving at the courthouse but not attending the hearing.

The most recent incident was last week, when Spears showed up at the downtown civil courts building for a chance to persuade a Superior Court commissioner to change his order and allow her to see her sons.

Dressed as if arriving for a cocktail party — wearing bright pink lipstick, sunglasses, shiny gold platform shoes and a very short black dress with a ruffled hem — Spears was driven into an underground garage and then entered the courthouse.

A court spokesman said she got through a security metal detector, then announced, "I want to leave," and returned to her car.

Spears' father takes over estate

Singer Britney Spears has had control of her estate and her own welfare taken from her, under order of a court.

The pop star and her assets have been placed under the "conservatorship" of her father, James Spears.

She was admitted to a psychiatric hospital on Thursday, after a highly publicised descent into drink, drugs and personal problems.

A court creates a conservatorship when a person cannot care for himself or herself or handle their own affairs.

Court commissioner Reva Goetz said Spears would be under conservatorship until 4 February, when another hearing will be held.

Restraining order

The conservators will have power over the 26-year-old singer's liquid assets and can bar people from visiting her, officials said.

The Los Angeles court also placed a restraining order on Spears' manager Sam Lutfi, and gave permission to change the locks on her estate and remove anyone who was there.

Spears has been receiving treatment in the UCLA medical centre, where she was taken on Thursday for a psychiatric evaluation.

It was the second time she had been taken to hospital in less than a month.
In January, Spears was admitted to Cedar-Sinai medical centre after refusing to surrender custody of her two sons in a police stand-off.

Following the incident, sole custody of Sean Preston, aged two, and Jayden James, who is one, was awarded to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

As you know, no one really cares about such "celebrities", they are clutter to pass the time with as the Sheeple are fed useless and irrelevant propaganda on TV.

Just my opinion... :) ... but ....

....Britney has made millions and millions of $$$ for *someone*.  She is a programming  icon for millions of people/teenagers/children.

Her antics and/or unfolding life story is the subject of books, TV shows, magazines, internets, talk shows, radio shows .............. she is even on my nightly local news, for heavens sake ( !!! ).. and I live in a tiny, whittle, miniscule town in Maryland!  We even discuss her here at The Cafe.

Britney is very, very, very, very important to whoever has created her and very important for whatever role she has to play.  Here's what this article says about how finacially important she is...  is it any wonder she named her new record label "ENSLAVED"?

[color="navy"] "The Britney economy is the equivalent of a company that employs tens of thousands of people. She's a goldmine," said Portfolio writer Duff McDonald, a former investment banker with Goldman Sachs.
Among those who have cashed in are Elizabeth Arden, the cosmetics company, which has sold nearly $100 million worth of fragrances in Spears's name, and Jive Records, which has made $400 million from the 83 million albums sold since she burst on to the scene in 1999.
Tour promoters and concert venues have pulled in $150 million from her various tours. Spears, 26, can pocket up to $400,000 per appearance just to show her face at an event like a nightclub opening.
She has also fuelled an estimated boom of $75 million a year for the media, with celebrity magazines reporting sales increases of up to 33 per cent when they put her face on the cover.
The paparazzi who follow her every move – from shopping expeditions and trips to fast-food joints to more explosive public meltdowns – pocket a further $4 million from picture sales.
Last week journalists and photographers massed outside her home once again as she was whisked to hospital for psychiatric checks for the second time in a month.
Yahoo! reports that Spears, whose hit of last year, Piece of Me includes the lyrics, "I'm still an exceptional earner, You want a piece of me?", has topped its internet search rankings for six of the last seven years. Searches of her name increased by 60 per cent last year.
"Whether she's shaving her head or battling for custody of her children, Britney seems to grow more fascinating and, to some people, more lucrative every time she stumbles," Mr McDonald said.
"As one leg of the Britney economy declines, say record sales, another increases, like her paparazzi value. She appears recession-proof."

Also.... very strange but the last I heard about her she was screaming at someone on the phone  while in the hospital (her dad?) all in that British accent.... still.  Just a guess that the British alter comes out under stress or emotionally trying times.  Maybe?  Well anyway, I couldn't help but see this in her name ---

Sily, I would have to agree that it appears her British alter comes out to handle stressful situations.  They are talking about a padded cell, restraints and drugs to sedate her if she becomes violent.  This is what I was expecting if she was kept in the hospital.

The battle over who has conservatorship over her and her wealth has intensified.

And I wondered what that action is imprinting on society?  I think it's significant because it almost looks to me like "big brother steps in once again".  I think it's a significant message being sent out to society about her father taking over.  Sort of fits in well with the Nanny State we live - you know "age of Big Brother" and all.

Sily, I don't see any other choice for her parents to make.  No matter who they really are and what agendas they have, Britney is still their adult child so who else can step in to take conservatorship while she is incapacitated?  Lawyers?  I'm sure many people would like to take control of Britney's finances and to limit her contact with some of these people she has been involved with, such as Adnan and Sam Lutfi.  IMO, Britney is quite incapable of making any reasonable decisions on her own behalf, so who is?  Maybe you have some good ideas that I cannot see?  :)

I am interested to see if her parents really do protect her interests.  This will be a huge test for them, I think.

My mom was not able to bring herself to have my sister who died committed by taking the state required legal steps to do so.  My sister was out of control and imo, insane.  My mom could not do it and died a year and 8 months before my sister did; no longer able to even have a conversation with her first born, much less see her in person, because her first born and namesake would attack her.

Complexity!  :)
