That is a good clip Richard to make people aware and I have seen the same type of stories here in oz on some of the current affairs programs, and it is usually women who are the target. This happens in all areas of trade, including around your home.
When we installed our pool, we had the same thing, it is a long story, but we had these two ‘pool experts’ on the job! We had to hire a massive crane to lift the pool in the hole, and yep when it was time it did not fit! So after being here for 9 hours, and working at a snails pace, then they stuff up and tell us they will have to come back and re-do it, and at the end of the day pass me a bill for $900, I told him he is not getting one cent from me, and the pool company paid for the crane, we hired someone else, so all you have to do really is stick to your guns and the idea of marking something that is going to be fixed is excellent, we have done it a few times with different things and surprised at how many charlatans are out there, where is the honesty in our world?

That’s an interesting story about your pool. I agree there are tons of scammers out there waiting to rip people off. It seems like the repair business is one of the worst because it’s so easy for them to scam people. The customers usually don’t understand technology and the customers believe whatever the technicians tells them. Quick lubes are notorious for scamming people because they couldn’t stay in business if they only did oil changes because they only make a few dollars off the oil change. So they are pressured to sell the customer things they usually don’t need like new air filters, gas filters, transmission flushes and so on. Many times the repair is never done and the customer is charged for it. Some quick lubes don’t even change the oil or they put used oil back into the car. You’re usually better off getting your oil changes and repairs at reputable car dealer than a quick lube.

Yes Richard,
Life is certainly sad at times, where money comes before old fashioned ‘service’ this type of thing is wide spread and it basically comes down to the individual and what they are prepared to accept. What I do see often is when these companies are exposed, and the worker usually tells the truth, because he/she is just doing what they are told, as seen on this clip the manager denies his identity, and then the owner or top manager of these businesses then blame the worker, they get fired, your workplace position is always disposable, you are never safe and looked at as replaceable, the owners just don’t care about the workers these days, but times are changing and it will be the ‘top layers of the pyramid’ that will fall as we expose truth more and more.
