McCanns to consult top UK psychics?
#1
ENGLAND. It is now more than 150 days since Madeleine McCann disappeared from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, resulting in one of the most high-profile searches for a missing child that has ever been undertaken.

Conflicting rumours of kidnapping and even death – accidental or otherwise – at the hands of one or other of her parents, Kate and Gerry, continue to circulate. The latest is that the McCanns will soon consult the UK’s top psychics in their quest to find out what has happened to their daughter.

Still officially suspects in the eyes of the Portuguese police, the McCanns are believed to have approached Gordon Smith and Colin Fry through friends and relatives in the hope of learning Madeleine’s fate.

Gordon Smith confirmed to http://www.ParanormalReview.com (1 October, 2007) that he had twice been approached by people connected to the McCanns and had expressed a desire to help them. But the only way for his mediumship to work effectively was to give a sitting to the McCanns.

Making that offer, he assured the individuals who approached him that it would be a private session – as, indeed, are all of his sittings – and he would not seek to publicise it or divulge what transpired. The McCanns, however, would be free to make whatever use they desired of any information or communication they received.

“There is, of course, no guarantee that I’ll receive anything,” Gordon added, “but I’m ready to assist them in any way I can.”

Sunday tabloid The People (30 September 2007) claimed that the person who contacted Gordon Smith was a friend of Gerry’s brother, John. And it was Philomena, Gerry’s sister, who got in touch with Colin Fry.

She told the newspaper: “Seeing a psychic is just part of turning more stones. Gerry is not particularly receptive to psychics – but he’s prepared to give it a go. Kate, on the other hand, has more belief in them.

For the McCanns, who are Roman Catholics, consulting mediums would be a very big step. But they are said to have read a book by Gordon Smith – who is known as “the Psychic Barber” – and been impressed. They would be forgiven for being sceptical about paranormal claims in general, given the flood of “psychic” clues that have been sent to the Find Madeleine campaign, all without result so far.

According to the Daily Mail (2 October), the family has received over 1,000 tip-offs from psychics and mystics of which 150 were specific enough to forward to the Portuguese police for investigation. Only 15 per cent have so far been looked into.

As we reported on 31 May, three British mediums have visited Portugal in the hope of finding clues to Madeleine’s disappearance. Diane Lazarus, winner of the 2006 Psychic Challenge TV show, and paranormal partners Amanda Hart (who was on the same show) and Brian Murphy all spoke optimistically about their belief that Maddy was alive and would be found.

But Diane Lazarus’s website contains no references to her Portuguese visit, and questions posted by visitors to the site, asking for news of Madeleine, are unanswered. Amanda Hart and Brian Murphy said they would not publicise the psychic information they picked up in Portugal, but their public relations representative, Kizzy Nkwocha, published an extraordinarily detailed account of Amanda’s impressions on his own website on 25 May.

Since then there has been one further posting, on 13 July ... then silence. Here is what Kizzy relayed from Amanda – who was then still in Portugal – in his mid-July blog:

“Slip road – high wall on right hand side, red/orange bricked – Maddie in there at present. This is no ordinary residence. See black iron gates. See guard dogs, lawns and statues.  Off beaten track. See a dolly being bathed in a small tin bath tub. See a lot of turquoise and gold ornate material – very expensive cloth, feels like a costume of some kind or clothing. Royal connection.

“(Name withheld) has disposed of evidence now.  Saw red book again and plastic square and oblong shapes, probably discs and videos that have been removed and placed in plastic bags and dumped. There are imprints of deleted information on his computer that links him.

“Miscarriage of justice. Recovery will be swift. A female will bring light to this situation and bring information forward. A move is imminent. This is the end of a problematic time and wrongs will be righted – but in time. Patience and perserverence is required for a good outcome. Resolution imminent. – Amanda.”

But not imminent enough.

Hopefully, the truth about Maddy’s disappearance will eventually be revealed and the various psychics who have gone public with their paranormal predictions about the case can be properly assessed.

Reputations are at stake.
