More April snow headed to Michigan
#1
This sure has been one crazy year for the weather. Michigan is still having winter. I’ve never seen anything like it as long as I’ve lived here. I’m starting to think global warming is over and now we’re getting ready for an ice age. icon_cold

By The Associated Press

Almost three weeks into spring, Michigan was bracing for another winter punch.

Unseasonably cold weather is persisting statewide. At minus-8, the Upper Peninsula community of Champion was the nation's cold spot Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch through Wednesday night for the northern two-thirds of the Lower Peninsula.

Up to 8 inches of snow could fall in parts of the area stretching from Ludington on Lake Michigan to Bay City on Lake Huron and as far east as Bad Axe, near the tip of the Thumb region. At least 6 inches of snow was possible farther north.

Strong gusty winds could cause blowing and drifting, and accumulations of ice and sleet were possible, forecasters said.

The snow was likely to turn to light rain or drizzle in the eastern portion of the watch area late Wednesday.

An inch or less of snow was possible in metropolitan Detroit, the weather service said.

After expected highs Wednesday in the upper 30s to low 40s statewide, temperatures are not expected to reach the 50s until early next week.

It is certainly coincidental enough that the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" says that there will be cooling as a first effect from Global Warming and then here we go the first spring after that movie we have a record cold spring. Strangely pat sort of coincidence.

We’ve been having a lot of strange weather this year. It will be interesting to see what summer will be like. It sounds like all the volcanoes that are active right now are spewing ash into the atmosphere and letting less sun reach the planet. I guess we don’t need to worry about Gore’s global warming anymore. Now we have a mini ice age to worry about.  icon_2cold

Two volcanoes emitting lava and gas in Russian Far East

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 29 (RIA Novosti) - Mount Klyuchevskaya has started emitting lava on the Kamchatka Peninsula and another volcano in Russia's Far East, Shiveluch, spewed out gas and ash, a local geophysics service said Thursday.

Klyuchevskaya, one of the world's highest active volcanoes, rising to a height of 4,750 meters (15,584 feet), is emitting lava at an altitude of 4,200-4,300 meters (about 14,000 feet), the service said.

"The authorities should warn people about a possible danger and take proper security measures," said Alexei Ozerov, a senior seismology researcher, adding that the lava flow would grow more powerful.

Streams of lava with a temperature of about 1,100 C( (2,012 F() are encountering ice caps, producing powerful explosions of vapor. Experts are warning of devastating mudflows that can reach 500 meters (1,640 feet) in width and can descend the volcano's eastern slopes.

Local officials said "the population and companies working in the area that could be affected by mudflows" had been told to take precautions.

The current lava eruption on Klyuchevskaya began February 15, and the previous emission occurred in January-May 2005, when the volcano caved in by about 50 meters (150 feet) and the village of Klyuchi, located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the volcano, was covered in ash.

The largest gas and ash emission in five years from Mount Shiveluch, Kamchatka's northernmost volcano with an altitude of 3,283 meters (10,771 feet), began at 3 p.m. local time (6 a.m. Moscow time, 2 a.m. GMT) at an altitude of 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) or 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) above sea level.

Clouds of volcanic ash are spreading to the northeast of the mountain, posing a threat to people's health and air flights. Volcanic tremors are being registered in the nearby area.

There are more than 150 volcanoes on Kamchatka, 29 of them active. Experts say volcanoes' activity has recently increased on the Peninsula.

THE GLACIERS ARE COMING! THE GLACIERS ARE COMING! icon_eek

At least that's what this site below says. icon_smile

THE NEXT ICE AGE - NOW!

The next ice age could begin any day.

Next week, next month, next year, it's not a question of if, only when. One day you'll wake up -- or you won't wake up, rather -- buried beneath nine stories of snow. It's all part of a dependable, predictable cycle, a natural cycle that returns like clockwork every 11,500 years.

. . . And since the last ice age ended almost exactly 11,500 years ago . .
