Russia's Putin Announces Second Cold War
#1
By L. Vincent Poupard

According to the Associated Press, Russian President Vladamir Putin has made further threats against the nuclear missile agreements that have been made in the past. He has also made more threats against the United States and its allies. Putin has issued a warning that a new Cold War has begun.
The day after the start of the G8 Summit, Russian President Vladamir Putin said that Russia is interested in aiming nuclear warhead missiles at key cities in Europe. This comes in retaliation to the proposed missile defense system that President George Bush is proposing to have constructed.

The proposed system will place a radar system in the Czech Republic. There would also be interceptor missiles placed in Poland. According to President Bush, this system would be placed to battle any potential strike that could be placed in Europe from Iran.

Putin believes that the placement of the missile system is actually an attempt to protect Europe from Russia. He has stated that he considers this an insult against him and his country.

Putin also believes that the suggested interceptor missiles could also be used for attack. He believes that these missiles would have the capability to attack key points within Russia. Putin has stated that this suggestion is ushering a new Cold War between Russia and the Western World.

Statements that were made this morning by officials from Iran backed up Putin's arguments. These officials stated that there was no way that their missiles could ever travel far enough to reach Western Europe. They thought that it was a joke to even think that their missiles could reach Eastern Europe.

The known artillery of Iran would have a maximum distance of about 800 miles. This would mean that the furthest target that could be reached would be central Isreal. There is a possibility that there are other missiles in their arsenal that could travel longer distances that officials do not know about.

There are experts claiming that Iran is working on longer-range missiles that would enable it to strike European countries. These claims are speculative, and are not backed up by any hard evidence.

Putin stated today that he realizes that there is a lot of tension in the politics of the world right now. He does not consider the placing of a missile defense system in his territory as being a proper answer to this unrest. He believes that it poses more of a threat to his people then protection.

President Bush has received a lot of criticism recently for his foreign policy. It would be a major mark against his historical record if he was one of the causes for a second Cold War.

I suppose a missile defense system is feasible with the current technology, though I don't think it would need to be orbital.
Hmmm, well suppose there was a serious missile defense grid that could detect and nullify any ICBM fired.
Maybe such a system will be developed in America. Duplicated by the Japanese, and they bam! soon almost every country has one, and the nukes would be obsolete at least when launched by missile. The missiles they will probably then sell to Coke to make cans out of, offending enviromentalists worldwide, and then everyone will have this expensive as hell anti-missile system, but no one will have any missiles.
Meanwhile, while we're pouring all these resources into the anti-missile grid, bin Laden releases a toxic pidgeon that wipes out most of the world's human population.

It sounds like Putin decided to play ball. It sounds like he caved into economic sanctions threatened against Russia if he didn’t play ball.

DID RUSSIA JUST ATTACK THE US? BOND DUMPING

Adrian Douglas comments on the mysterious collapse of the bond market... and the possible implications.

From last night's Le Metropole Cafe http://www.lemetropolecafe.com

Bill,
Yesterday all the analysts were pointing at surging bond rates as to why the stock market fell and cough, cough, why precious metals got smacked because strangely enough the dollar surged.

I have scoured the headlines and I can’t find anyone who has explained the trigger that made the bond market collapse! There has to be a reason why suddenly bonds sell off. But there was nothing but complete silence on the subject except for the plain old fact that bond yields increased (as if we couldn’t work that out for ourselves without a journalist!).

Without any systemic news to trigger a sell off it means that a large holder, or holders of bonds must have decided to sell for reasons that have not been made public. Who are the potential candidates? China, Japan or Russia are the most likely culprits. I think we can rule out Japan because they generally do not rock the US boat. China is diversifying and setting up its investment fund so this is a possibility but I would have expected them to sell in small enough chunks that the market would not fall apart. What about Russia? Bush was preaching about how the Russians should not be concerned about the US missile system ahead of the G-8. He was also telling Putin to suck it up and realize the cold war is over. Putin must have been steaming mad about being treated like a 4 year-old. His advisor came to GR 21 and so he knows the Achilles heel of the US. I am sure he has not forgotten how Reagan cooked up a deal with the Saudis to plunge the price of oil to destroy the USSR. Did Putin show Bush that if he messes with him he can do a lot more damage than was done to them with a low oil price? Russia also knows how the cartel swing into action to bomb the gold price when it looks like it should fly. Russia has said it intends to double its gold reserves. Was this a little show of force that served the double purpose of stopping Bush from treating him like a second class idiot and will allow them to pick up gold at a discount from the cartel in the next few days? Russia has proposed that the US can have a missile shield but the radar would be in ex-Soviet controlled Azerbaijan. Now that is an interesting proposition!

Has this been an exercise in teaching the US administration that they don’t own the world?

Was this why Paulson didn’t attend the G-8 because they got wind that something like this might happen and he needed to be in cartel HQ?
