Sydney named top tourist spot

Sydney has been named the world's number one city at this year's U.S Conde Nast Traveller Reader's Choice Awards held in New York.

It is the 12th time readers of the popular travel magazine have voted Sydney into first place, with San Francisco and Florence coming second and third.

Sydney believes its marketing campaigns overseas are paying off in the promotion of Sydney’s unique climate, food and spectacular scenery.

The 28,000 readers voted on a variety of criteria including ambience, friendliness, sights, restaurants, hotels and shopping.

In January?? Pity she didn't make it March, the best weathered month in the year. No rain, no clouds, no winds, no heat... just lots of warmth and Sun and equal houred days and nights. But better Jan than July-Aug unless you love the cold.

Where is she going? What cities and how long is she staying?

What makes Melbourne better than Sydney?

My daughter is coming to Australia on a work/visit type thingy. She is going to be staying around 4 months. This group is going to find her work, and a place to live. She can work as much or as little as she wants, and then her free time she can go visit where she wants. She said that she is going to be going to Sydney, because I guess that's where most of the work is.  She said she wants to go in January because of some kind of holiday that you all have down there that is supposed to be one of the biggest holidays of the year? She is not afraid of the heat...she loves it. I told her that she will be going there during the hottest time of your year.

As far as Richard visiting before me...he will go there before me over my dead body. Hehehe

What makes Melbourne better than Sydney?

Now that's a silly question Rick... me of course.:big grin: lolol 

Better nightlife, better food, better resturants, better cloths shops, and a symetrically built METROPLITAN area including the city of course.  I have friends and relatives who have lived in Sydney all their lives and do not know how to go to a specific street in a town 5minutes away.  EVERYONE carries a street directory and uses it most all teh time they travel by car...including cab drivers.  It's sick Rick.  The city has been built using the rules of KAOS and is an absolute mess in terms of getting around it.  You miss a turnoff and it can take over half an hour and 10miles of driving to recover.  In Melb if yo umiss a turnoff ANYWHERE you drop a U-turn or drive around the block and your there in less than 1 minute. 

I've lived in Sydney, in the Hunter valley NSW, at TweedHeads boarder of NSW/QLD, Ballina Nth NSW, Newcastle upper mid NSW, Henderson WA, Perth WA, Whyalla SA, Port Perie SA, Adelaide SA.  IMO melbourne and the surrounding Metropolitan area especially outer suburbia/countryside is the best place to be followed by Perth WA.  Then Sydney then Adelaide.  Adelaide is good if you want to live a quiet easy/slowish life with lots of open spaces near the city but the locals are a little rough... but in all it too is OK.  Sydney is more Cosmopolitan than Melb also.  WOrk is about the same in both states though Syd has more office type work whereas MElb has more labour/trade type work.  She will enjoy it especially between Feb-April, the weather is to die for.
 
I can't stand Qld... any and all of it.  It's not the land, its the people.  They're not Australians, they're from some distant planet far far away where all the sickos come from... REDNECK wonderland.:big grin:   If they could deport them all and replace them with people fro all other states of Ozz it would then be ok.  But don't go anywhere near it as you may lose your life and never be found again... especially if your'e a WOG or Asian or Black... and especially if you're a Muslim.:big grin:

A work thingy DT??  Sounds groovy to me.  If she like the heat she'll love Sydney tell her to watch the cold mornings after 3am, even in Jan but especially after late Feb.  IT stays hot to warm all night then without warning after 3.00am it plumits dramatically and can catch you out badly.  Whereas Melb goes cold before 11pm at night and it is not hard to judge the right amount of blanketting when you go to bed.

Make sure you're here Feb at least, and if you can make it stay on till mid May.  It's in that time that most things happen here Rick.  In April I love going up to the Blues Festival in ByronBay in NorthernNSW - if you come at that time Rick, we're all going, that includes DT.  We'll have her rocking like the best of them lol.  Fishing is at its peak in all our oceans and bays.  The weather is perfect for going to the resturants and sitting outside to a delicous meal at nights... and better yet, it's open slather BBQ season.  Not too hot, not too cold,  and the steaks sizzle so nicley, next to the fish and prawns.

We are also known as the Garden state Rick and you should see the colours of the ambering and redding tree leafs as they prepare for the coming winter.  Unlike the prior months, you can always get a full and good nights rest becasue you won't sweat in bed at night. 

It not uncommon for me to go fishing in the morning till lunch and bring home enough fish to feed a small army upon where I arc up the BBQ break out the snappy crisp salads and devour it all with friends I invite over.

I'm sure there'll be other things you'd love here Rick... PhillipIsland Penquin parade will put a sparkle in your eyes.lolol  And that's surrounded by countless excellent fishing grounds I attend both offshore and onshore... why do you think the penguins go there??  Super abundant food supply is why, and everything else comes in for its share too, from 6inch long pilchards to 20+foot long Great Whites, and everything in between.  The world record Great White was caught 8miles straight out from where the penguin parade is in fact... over 2,000lbs of GreatWhite on a hook and rod.:big grin:

Aye, aye... March till early mid May is the best.
