Tarot cards help $6.8M lotto win
#1

By CHRIS KITCHING, SUN MEDIA

When a psychic reveals whether you will live happily ever after, think of Judy Mayer before you dismiss it all as a bunch of baloney.

Even though Mayer's good fortune wasn't forecast in a crystal ball, she has more than six million reasons to put her faith in the wisdom of tarot card readings.

The Winnipegger won $6.8 million in last Wednesday's Lotto 6-49 draw using five of six numbers she obtained during a reading in 2005.

"She didn't tell me I was going to win a substantial amount of money. Sometimes they hit on the right things, sometimes they don't," Mayer, 56, said yesterday after claiming Manitoba's latest multi-million dollar lottery jackpot.

In her purse, Mayer carries the psychic's business card on which her numbers are scribbled.

Further luck was involved but it was Mayer's doing. For reasons she was unable to explain, she changed the sixth number given to her -- 45 -- to 46.

Numbers drawn were 5, 6, 17, 21, 31 and 46.

"Over the years we've had people pick their (winning) numbers a lot of different ways. Tarot cards, I can't recall anybody," said John Matheson of Western Canada Lottery Corp.

Mayer's fortune was "in the cards," a press release quipped.

100TH LOTTERY WIN

Yesterday's presentation at McPhillips Street Station Casino had more pomp and circumstance than usual because Mayer's jackpot is Manitoba's 100th lotto win of $1 million or more, and the province's ninth largest.

Mayer split $13.8 million with a ticketholder in Ontario and has not decided what to do with her winnings, aside from sharing with her two children.

Mayer has quit her job at Transcona's Royal George Hotel, where she was a manager, since she and her partner, Dave Chalmers, checked her ticket last Thursday. She bought it at a kiosk in St. Vital Centre.

"I said to him, 'I'm sure some of those are my numbers,'" Mayer said. "I looked and I started screaming, 'I got all six of them.'"

Chalmers, a 62-year-old retired Winnipeg police officer, said he was more panicked than Mayer.

"What do you do with a hysterical woman?" he said.

Mayer's windfall is the third Lotto 6-49 jackpot awarded in Manitoba in four weeks.

Richard,

This is the power of thought!

A few factors that I see, the tarot reader did not tell this woman she was going to win; did she give her these numbers to make her happy at the reading. But it was Mayer’s original thoughts that took her to someone for guidance of this type, I wonder if she asked the tarot reader for lucky numbers or was just given them randomly.

But Mayer’s belief (although it took many years) was kept in her purse – this is a place where we women accumulate things! But also the place where this woman’s finances are kept - her daily money, credit cards and so on.

So over the years she has probably cleaned out the junk in her purse many times, looked at that card and had doubts but continued to put that card back in.

Eventually her belief overrode her doubt and it was her own power of thought and the energy carried with her everyday in her purse.

I have heard of many people with the same numbers for years and eventually they get the big prize. I wonder if she will share her ‘pot of gold’ with the tarot card reader.

Yes, it does sound like the power of thought helped her win. One thing that was interesting is she said she changed the last number for no reason. Maybe it was her oversoul influencing her to change the number.

Everything happens for a reason, it surely will change her life.

I've found tarot readers to be either really good or relaly bad. But in a weird way, then end up reflecting whatever I'm thinking about in that moment.

So I mean if I'm in a crappy mood from breaking up wiht a girl or whatever, the reading takes on a negative tone and the psychic predicts all this bad stuff. Other times when I've gone in to a reader at one of those festivals and I'm really focused on healing and meditation, the reading is completely different.

Anybody else experience this? Is it all about vibration or something?>

Hi hippocamp,
There are some great clairvoyants out there but most tarot readers are simply good translators, so when you shuffle those cards, you put a vibration into them and it is your own higher self that provides the information and the tarot card reader translates what each card represents, and the majority of people that go to a tarot card reader actually have a problem, so you are looking for an answer. Personally for me I have never come across one that could tell me something that was true, and what they did tell me never came true, I had a very bizarre reading from a friend who was learning them many years ago and her inability to translate could have caused many problems for all concerned, so just be careful on who you let guide you. No one can tell your future, it is unwritten.
Cheers.
