The Secret movie on Oprah air date February 8th & 16th
#11
I feel I need to respond to you Aethah and Royal Blue. I don't know if I will make much sense, but I will try. First of all, in response to people thinking the speakers on The Secret are trying to be 'gurus' and getting people to follow them. Well, I guess this is always a possibility as with any person or persons who try to put new ideas or beliefs out to the general public. Most people are sheep that want to be led. But for me, I have watched the video about 3 or 4 times and I have watched the Oprah segment twice (had to show it to a friend), and I still can not tell you any one of the panel members names. Their names were not important to me; it was the message they were conveying that was what got through - so none of those people will ever be ‘gurus’ to me.

You keep on mentioning ‘New Age,’ like this is just some New Age crap. But, if you really listen, you will know that this PREDATES the New Age movement. This goes back to ancient times. Yes, this is not new – but who said it was? Why does it have to be new to be true? Look at our times now. Look at how we are ‘rediscovering’ cures or inventions that were from the ‘ancients.’  Just because it is ‘old’ does it mean that it is wrong?  That is the problem with our age now. People think if it’s not ‘high-tech’ or can’t be proven, or seen, or touched, it can’t be true.  To play devil’s advocate here…has anyone ever really ‘seen’ god? Or touched him? Has it ever been proven beyond a doubt that god exists (or godmind or oversoul for that matter).  Oh, there will be people that will say “I have seen god” or “I have touched god,” but in reality, it is all a matter of faith. The Secret just tells you to have faith in yourself – to believe in yourself.  Why is that so hard to comprehend? Why do people have so little faith in themselves?

I did wonder why this was being so promoted and visible lately, and the conclusion I came to was this. I think that once this information came out and began making the buzz in the general public, ‘the powers that be’ decided to do some ‘damage control.’  And we all know that ‘damage control’ means slipping in doubts and half-truths in what is being said. What do you think would happen to their control if all of a sudden people began to wake up and realize the potential that they have right inside of themselves? If all of a sudden people began to realize that they don’t need to give away their power to a deity or a leader or doctor or anyone, that all they have to do is believe in themselves and in the power we all have right inside of us.  While our lives would get better and better, ‘their’ control over us would disappear and cause them chaos. ‘They’ can’t have that. ‘They’ need to have us believe in things other than ourselves.

You also keep on referring to the fact that The Secret is only for materialistic gains, and we should get to ‘know ourselves.’ That makes me wonder if you really watched the video fully. Yes, they do talk about how you can get ‘stuff’ from this belief, but that is not the whole of it. They also talk about ‘self’ in the video. They tell you to ‘know yourself’ and ‘believe’ in yourself. They tell you to look inside and see who you truly are and what it is you truly desire. They also tell you not to just believe in what they say but to prove it to yourself by trying it. And I ask you…what harm can it bring to try it? What harm can it bring to believe in yourself and the power we all hold inside of us?  Oh, and they do talk about ‘releasing’ and ‘forgiveness.’ They say that you have to release all the negative feelings you have and you have to love yourself – for if you don’t love yourself or release your negative thoughts, how can you expect anything positive to come into your life.

We have been conditioned for too many eons to think that we are tiny, insignificant beings, that have no power in ourselves – that we need to have someone or something to lead us, to guide us, because we can’t do it on our own – whether it be by religion, science, New Age, or what have you. It is time for us to wake up and realize that we are all a part of the whole (all that is), and as part of the whole, we have the same potential and powers that the whole has.  I’m not saying that it is, or will be easy (I, myself, still have the ‘doubt’ demons inside of me that I am fighting with). Those eons of conditioning are deeply ingrained in us, and it will take time and work, and overall, lots of BELIEF to break through it - but I BELIEVE it can be done.

What I would like to know is…why people are finding it so hard and so distasteful to believe in the power of thought? Why don’t they want to believe in themselves and what they can do? Doesn’t it say in the bible: if you had the faith of a mustard seed, you could move mountains? What do you think that really meant? Could it be that this teacher was actually telling us a literal fact? That if we DID have the faith and belief, we really COULD move mountains? Was he really telling us to BELIEVE in OURSELVES and the power we all hold inside of us?  Why do you need to follow someone or something to validate yourself? I for one am tired of it, and I am not going to take it anymore. I am going to take back the power that is mine by rights.

All this talk about deprogramming and releasing things up to oversoul is just another way of giving up your power to someone or something else, and frankly, it is getting old. If that is the only way that you feel happy, then by all means, go for it, but at the end of the day, where is it really going to get you? Does knowing you are programmed make you feel more empowered? Does doing ‘deprogramming’ make you feel more in control of your life or does it make you realize just how much control ‘they’ still have over you? Maybe that’s why I don’t see or feel ‘triggers’ in movies, or t.v. or radio. I just don’t dwell on them. I have better things to spend my thoughts on – like taking back the power that is, and always was, mine.

Sorry I rambled on so much. Just giving you my thoughts and feelings.

Just got word that Oprah had such a response to her show on "the Secret" last week that she is doing another show on it tomorrow, Friday the 16th. :)

DT,
I think your thoughts are great, and totally agree that the ‘secret’ is no way linked to any new age movement. The new age attracts those who need to ‘follow’ there is always a healer or guru to take you to your slice of heaven, but! Yes there is always a clause with following; you give up your own power when you follow another.
The ‘secret’ offers a panel of people whom agree on the one philosophy, they all agree on the law of attraction through their own experiences in life; each one has achieved their desired success and not let past experiences hold them down.
When Freud began his theories on psychoanalysis, he was criticized but his initial work began a thought process that changed the world, the power of the mind began a journey of unveiling.
Everything in life is energy.
