UCLA Police Taser Student in Library
#1
UCLA's library policy requires students to show their student ID after 11pm when security guards patrol the area. A student refused to neither show his ID nor leave, so he was continually tasered by the police for not cooperating until he was dragged out of the library. This demonstrates an abuse of power since the police was not threatened and there were enough of them to carry him out. UCLA students asked the police officers for their badge numbers and reasons for tasering. One told the cop that this is abuse. However they stood back for the most part afraid of the cop's physical force. The student being tasered yelled, "Where's Your Patriot Act?! Where's...!"

About a year ago, at the wildlife refuge I volunteer at, we had gotten an owl in late one night.  It had landed on a picnic table in a local area.  It wasn't after people or even interested in them, it was just casually landing for a quick moment.  An officer nearby saw it and immediately made people back away as he shot it three times in the head with a tazer gun.  When the owl came in, it was in critical condition, light scarring covering his eyes and the possibility of brain damage if he survived the night.  He did survive and his eyes cleared up, and he is one of the most gentle birds we have.  Because of his extremely gentle nature he learned to trust us to the point where we could hand-feed him.  Because he is so gentle and trusting of people, he is now a presentation bird, one of the birds that we take to schools, festivals and even boy scout events to teach people about wildlife issues.  From what we believe, the only brain damage he recieved from the concussion was within neurons that are connected to the extension of his right wing.  Because he can't move his right wing to the extent that he needs to hunt efficiently, he will most likely remain with us for the rest of his life.  We named him Tazer.
