My Theory:
As care takers, your parents were role models for your survival. Therefore, their every action and words had significant impact on your development and your life as an adult. Extrapolating this, if they taught you the importance of focusing on the environment, you will more likely succeed.
If your mother pointed to her eyes, noses, and ears and then taught you the five senses, you are more likely grounded, less likely to have developed ADHD, and less likely daydreaming. As your role model of survival, this is because she taught you the importance of focusing here in the five senses.
If we repeat this lesson with our inner child, then we will more likely ground, need less of nurturing, and become more confident. In addition, we will become more balanced and matured.
(There is no statistics to back up my proposal. Someone in the Psychology department needs to perform a research!)
(Free feel to criticize or whatever. I need all your ideas so I can further develop this. I will directly apply this technique when I meditate.)
