I thought this might be a great inspirational pendant to all the other blah news. I saw the film back in December & again about a week ago on tv (no synch, thank God!).

It's an amazingly heartwarming, uplifting, fun & very human & true "can do" movie of old people (the youngest member is 75) hitting the road & rocking people around the world. If you rent the DVD, you won't regret it!icon_laola

Anyone who loves music will enjoy this thoroughly. icon_wink And even you don't it's still loads o' fun to watch...

PS: It has a special resonance because these people are at the end of their lives & some of them died during filming...and they kept singing until they died...

I feel this video deserves a separate mention because the man (Fred Knittle) was initially supposed to sing it in a duet with a member who died during filming. The 'thing' he carries with him is his 'aide' to allow him to breathe & get sufficient oxygen.

This was an exceptional performance because he had to learn the part of the deceased member & has had to stop singing & performing himself due to his ill health.

The rendition (what an unbelievable voice for an untrained singer!) in the context it is sung is particularly moving because the family members of the deceased performer are sitting in the audience.

This was Fred Knittle's last public performance. Even if it is a Coldplay song, the words & the way Fred sings it speak to the heart.

Here's the original. Great, too (Coldplay are one of my favourite bands) but different...;)
