Zecharia Sitchin (born July 11, 1920 - died October 9, 2010) was the author of numerous "ancient astronaut" books, the latest of which is entitled There Were Giants Upon the Earth. Sitchin attributed the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Anunnaki, which he claims are a race of extraterrestrials from a planet beyond Neptune called Nibiru, which is in an elongated, elliptical orbit in our Solar System, according to his interpretation of Sumerian mythology.
