I don't know who dug this up, but it is timeless. Too bad no one took it serious in 1948.

Even though I enjoy cartoons, to me, this kind of seems like brainwashing. I still think we are way too materialistic and that is not a good thing.

DT....Interesting response. I hadn't looked at it that way. I guess I saw a snake-oil salesman (politician/ government) try to sell citizens a bill of goods..i.e. take my remedy and you will have good fortune, good working conditions, etc. and not have to work hard for it. The people loved the idea and couldn't wait to sign up (the masses looking for handouts) until someone advised them they would give up their freedom (sell their soul to the devil). Then the government would have full control over them , the unions, the courts, banks, etc.
In real life many of them do seem to choose the easy way out. Electing politicians who promise the world and never deliver, buy things they can't afford using credit that they can't pay back, and now our economy tanked and the government is controlling more and more so that we are becoming somewhat Socialistic instead of our Capitalist Democratic Society. If this continues we could lose the independance and freedom we have always enjoyed. So that was my take on the cartoon initialy. Your response makes me wonder now if I missed something. If you felt an uneasy brainwash there must be something amiss. Does anyone else have an opinion. I'm interested in hearing it. |
