Anyone own a telescope?
#11
Dream Time, do you think pollution is a possible reason as to why you have not seen anything on the moon?  I don't know.  I'm just asking because I am interested.  The thought which occured to me was that you might be under some kind of mind control command not to see anything when you have looked before.  Ideally, Avatar could contact you the next time he sees something on the moon and direct your attention there with your telescope to see if you can see what he sees.  :D:D:D  But then, that might not be a good idea because of the time difference.  Darn!  If I had a telescope I would try to coordinate with Avatar.  Just musing, no biggie.

I don't know, Polly. Sometimes the sky is very clear over here - or most times it is. Maybe I just don't look at the right times. I just don't know.

It's the investigator in me that wants to understand the discrepancy, Dream Time.  :D:D:D  Another mystery goes unsolved.

Hi there Dream Time. Here are some good "Lunar Anomalies" websites, that can help you geographically locate on the Lunar surface, many different kinds of astroarchaeological phenomena that you can then see with your telescope:

http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/breakw...2/id63.htm

http://www.enterprisemission.com/

http://www.geocities.com/jilaens/moon.htm

http://www.ufocasebook.com/moon.html

http://www.ufogateway.com/lunar_anomaly/...omaly.html

http://www.think-aboutit.com/Moon/list_o...malies.htm

These should all be of some astronomical usage Dream Time, as a lot of information about "Lunar Anomalies" is given on those excelllent websites. Make sure you use your telescope are a really clear night, especially with a Full Moon as well, and in crystal clear resolution, you will be able to see some "Lunar Anomalies", especially in some of the larger craters.

Thanks, Avatar, for those links. I'll have to try harder to see some of the things that were pointed out. I liked what the one guy said - basically - how come we don't have much more detailed pictures and observations of our most closest neighbor?

I'm going to put this on my to-do List because it sounds like fun -- if I do see something, I'm going to report back to this thread.

I have, on warm summer nights, taken a comfy lawn chair, sat down and watched the satellites pass by overhead.  Ah yes... and of course... all the shooting stars I've seen.  Fun times!  icon_yes

If you have a 10 inch or more you can focus on the left hand side of the moon at about 9:30 about one quarter of the way in from the rim to the center and see Aristarchus. Here is what is looks like:
