Clinton set to concede delegate race to Obama

Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

Obama is 40 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. Once he reaches the magic number of 2,118, Clinton will acknowledge that he has secured the necessary delegates to be the nominee.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City.

She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.

Universal health care, Clinton's signature issue as first lady in the 1990s, was a point of dispute between Obama and the New York senator during their epic nomination fight.

Clinton was at home in Chappaqua, N.Y., with her husband, former President Clinton, and was placing calls to friends and supporters.

On NBC's "Today Show," Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said that once Obama gets the majority of convention delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee."

In a formal statement, the campaign made clear the limits of how far she would go in Tuesday night's speech. "Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination," the statement said.

Clinton field hands who worked in key battlegrounds said they were told to stand down, without pay, and await instructions. Speaking not for attribution because they didn't want to jeopardize their jobs searches, many said they were peddling resumes, returning to their hometowns or seeking out former employers.

Clinton officials have said they would not contest the seating of Michigan delegates at the convention in Denver this August. The campaign was angry this past weekend when a Democratic National Committee panel awarded Obama delegates it thought Clinton deserved.

I thought Hillary would have been better than Obama and McCain too. It’s starting to look like Obama will be the next president. The only chance Hilary has is if Obama gets assassinated. It surprises me that major media hasn’t publicized the Obama gay sex, murder, and drug scandal yet. That suggests to me that the Illuminati wants Obama to win.

Maybe Hillary will become vice president and then have Obama assassinated. Then she would automatically become president. That was a tactic George H. W. Bush tried when he was vice president to Reagan but Reagan survived the attempt.

I do not wish for anything bad to happen to anyone but the next few months will be very interesting, IMHO. 

What I'm alluding to is the choice for Vice President for Obama and McCain.  The reason is -- here at this forum someone said McCain will be President but because of his age he will have health problems and die (heart attack?  I do not remember) but this would set the stage for 2012 and Ah-nold Schwarzenegger's run for the Presidency and the importance of who McCain picks for VP. 

And then Goro says on his site Obama is next president with Hillary as Vice Pres.  .... *something* happens to Obama during the Presidency and Hillary takes over.  This sets up a run in 2012 between Hillary and Mr. Schwarzenegger.

All roads lead to Schwarzenegger in 2012.... no doubt in my mind. 

My wishes and hopes for the future are such - -> I wish for no harm to be done to any of these candidates and I wish for no President with the word [color="darkred"]WARZ[/color] in his name.

Well, I lost my money too, I surely could see Hilary in the top job, but it is not the end of the road as yet, it will be a very interesting year for all Americans and the world because who ever gets the top job is going to change things globally.

I think there’s still a chance Hillary will become president because the psychic twins predicted it and they haven’t been wrong yet as far as I know. Also John Titor said a woman would become president in 2008.

Hillary's campaign is almost toast - or so the media says.
 
But, for the sake of argument, let us assume that sometime in the next few days or weeks Hillary concedes and then suspends her campaign. And then she announces her "unqualified" support for Obama. And then she publicly campaigns for Obama.
 
Here is what will be said: "Hillary is taking the high road. She is helping unite the Democratic Party in opposition to McCain and the GOP. She is also preserving her right to run again in 2012 if Obama should lose this year. She is trying to be seen as a 'team player' and a good loser."
 
But here is what the truth will be: Yes, she will look as though she is taking the high road; in reality, she will also be taking the lowest road imaginable.
 
You can bet team Clinton has a dirty road plan: try to expose enough dirt on Obama, leaked through cut-outs, to derail him before the Aug. 27 Democratic convention. The Clintons figure if enough bad stuff comes out before then, the superdelegates will see Obama as a certain loser in November and may still switch their votes to Hillary at the convention.
 
Or, if the dirt from the low road plan comes in after the convention, team Clinton will either leak it out or give it to McCain to use (if his campaign has the guts to attack Obama).
 
Her low road goal? Have Obama lose in November - whereupon she will immediately begin her "I told you so" campaign. She will remind every Democratic Party official and leader that she and Bill had told them all along that she could and would have won in the general election and that Obama would not win. This is the beginning of Hillary 2012.
 
This is what team Clinton is planning: Anyone who honestly accepts them on their word is a total fool. The Clintons are a political machine dedicated to one thing only: acquiring and then keeping political power. Period.
 
So, ignore their high road words, and instead focus on the obvious low road they are on. There are going to be new revelations about Obama. And he may still not be the nominee.
