Exploding Head Syndrome
#1
In page one of this thread some made reference to what may be 'exploding head syndrome'.  In the early 80's I went to the doctor with a query on this, he looked at me like I was out of my mind!  Some years later, the phenomenon became recognised (only) because someone in the medical profession began to experience it.  Still, it was not until a few years ago that I came upon any reference to it.

It does actually 'sound' like the report of a gunshot...(my doctor thought I was crazy when I described the experience!).  However, the sound is not from an external source - it registers deep within the brain.  It always wakes one up...There are absolutely no physical effects felt during the occurance.

I was wondering...perhaps this is some form of protection, against intrusion, so to speak.  We are so quick to categorise such oddities as negative phenomena.

However, perhaps it may exist as a natural in-built mechanism against 'intruders'...?
