Interesting 2012 Prediction
#1

What does 2012 mean for each of us personally? Catastrophic destruction? Asteroids? Solar storms? The end of the world? Spiritual transformation or Apocalypse?

The real question is: will Octomom finally get her own reality show?

Doomsday conspiracy theories for 2012 have officially jumped the shark. We think that all the end-times doom-sayers are going to wake up on January 1, 2013 and feel totally stupid - and you may be sorry you bought into the hype.

Much of the focus of 2012 started with predictions that the Mayan Indians supposedly made centuries ago. Let's look at a bit of history...

First, let's define the meaning of Apocalypse. The word "Apocalypse" comes from the Greek apokalupsis, meaning "lifting of the veil" or "revelation." It is a disclosure of something hidden from mankind in an era in which falsehoods and misconceptions proliferate. The real meaning of apocalypse is an awakening.

The Maya lived in the eastern third of Mesoamerica, on the Yucatan Peninsula, north of the equator. They had sophisticated writing systems, and information about mathematics, astronomy, farming and the building of cities. They are perhaps most famous for their pyramids and the Mayan culture. The Mayan civilization is divided into three time periods spanning approximately 3,000 years. The first is the Pre-Classic Period from 2000 B.C. to 250 A.D. The second is the Classic Period which spanned from 250 A.D.-900 A.D. The third is the Post-Classic Period which spanned from 900 A.D. to1500 A.D. The Maya lived in the eastern one-third of Mesoamerica, mainly on the Yucatan Peninsula.

The Maya saw everything in terms of numbers and cycles. Their calendar was constructed around 250-900 A.D. The end of the Mayan calendar is known as the end of the Great Cycle. While the calendars had practical purposes such as social, agricultural, and commercial uses, there was also a strong religious element to them.

According to some, 2012 corresponds with a rare alignment of our solar system. The plane of our solar system will line up exactly with the plane of our galaxy the Milky Way. The sun supposedly will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in 26,000 years at 11:11 pm universal time, on 12/21/2012. The Milky Way is a galaxy comprised of 40 billion stars.

Many authors writing about 2012 are either predicting a doomsday scenario or the total opposite: instant world peace and utopia, a sort of portal to a new Golden Age of Enlightenment. Evidently, the apocalyptic scenario sells more books. On the contrary, we believe (and have publicly stated many times) that 2012 heralds a time of awakening to a new consciousness and spirituality. We see a sort of tipping point, when people will begin to reprioritize their lives, letting go of old stuck emotional patterns, relationships, situations and vocations that are no longer working. A shift in attitude will be occurring, as people begin to awaken and seek their authentic selves. The purpose is to purge karma, and release attachment to the old and obsolete. Resistance, anger and fear will naturally make this process more difficult.

Of course, we cannot be in denial about the economic, political and ecological problems on planet Earth. Somewhere we must arrive at a median point between naive euphoria and a preoccupation with cynicism and despair. Scientists tend to agree that the Earth's climate is entering a period of instability. The two of us have been accurately predicting the patterns of extreme weather of the last decade, and we see this pattern continuing. As a civilization, we have drifted far from our sacred essence. Occult scientist Terence McKenna said we will experience more rapid evolutionary growth in shorter time periods as we progress in time (the last growth cycle was 1967 to the 1990s). Adaptability, agility, and resilience will be required. According to McKenna, we will be seeing a dissolution of boundaries between classes of people, bodies of knowledge, pools of capital, and language groups toward the ultimate result where all boundaries will be dissolved.

McKenna describes 2012 as "a search for the underlying unity of science and magic, spirit and matter, machine and body." 2012 marks a critical shift in the history of our planet. As we have been saying for many years, this year and the coming decade heralds a time of spiritual transformation and not Armageddon.

Many believe that the world will end catastrophically on Dec. 21, 2012. We certainly do not believe this is true, and mainstream scholars criticize these trends in belief. The Mayans, in actuality, did not predict anything sinister for 2012. Myths abound in books, articles and on the internet. The Katun prophecies (Mayan prophecy cycles) said that difficulties are the result of disharmony of the spirit. The 13 Katuns warn of epidemics, plagues, famine, governments collapsing. This is already happening. In 2012, we will continue to see dramatic earth changes such as extreme weather, earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, and storms. People will lose confidence in religion, government, priests and ruling officials.

"These prophecies of doom really don't have any basis in what we know about the Maya," said Stephen Houston, a professor of anthropology at Brown University and a specialist of Maya hieroglyphic writing. "The Maya descriptions barely talk about this event."

Instead, Houston said, the Maya saw their "long count" - the longest of their cyclical calendars - coming to an end in 2012 but also beginning anew on that date, without disastrous consequences.

"Really, it's a conversion of people's anxieties about our times, and finding some remote mythological precedent or prediction of it," Houston said about the origins of the current 2012 myths. "People like to believe that ancient wisdom is somehow predicting this time of upheaval."

Modern speculation about how the world will end ranges from nuclear holocaust, asteroid collisions that would launch us into a new ice age, comets on a collision course with earth, solar storms, polar reversal, and alien invasion. It is highly unlikely that any of these events will take place in our lifetime. In fact, far from being a doomsday or end-times, we see the year 2012 as being a dramatic rebirth for humanity, a time of global and personal awakening.

While the Katun makes reference to difficulties and death, it also predicts great opportunity. The destruction is referred to as "purification" - cleansing the old patterns in order to prepare for creation of the new (renewal and balance). We see the coming years as a kind of symbolic death and rebirth, or death to the illusion of who we thought we were. A death to false notions of self, of the ego. It is a sort of karmic initiation humanity is undergoing now. Something old must die before something altogether new is born. The Universe is forcing people to surrender to new conversations, to grow, expand, begin anew.

The gods tend to whisper before they scream.

Will a comet hit the earth? Unlikely. If it does, we'll have to pray it isn't during the finals of Dancing With the Stars. No, a polar shift won't happen suddenly, the world economies won't be destroyed, and there will be no nuclear holocaust in 2012. Our planet will not be annihilated. We will not meet the antichrist.

You don't need to succumb to paranoia and start hoarding beef jerky and industrial-sized containers of Spam (although some basic supplies are always good to have on hand for emergencies). According to John Major Jenkins, scholar and author of Galactic Alignment, "the trendy doomsday people... should be treated for what they are: under-informed opportunists and alarmists who will move onto other things in 2013."

Earth is currently traveling through the 13th baktun cycle - the final period of 1618-2012 A.D. This cycle is known as "the triumph of materialism." The Maya predicted this final baktun would be a time of "great forgetting," in which we drift very far from our connection with nature and experience a kind of "collective numbness" or amnesia. We have, in fact, as a culture experienced a disconnection from nature and from our spiritual selves, which has been reflected in the breakdown of the environment.

As if in a kind of spell, humans have come to focus on lack and limitation, ego and materialism, while ignoring their spiritual, sacred side. It is a form of mind control, the illusion of separation. For many centuries, our planet has vibrated at a lower frequency, due to what author David Icke refers to as a "hypnotized culture." According to Sandra Noble, executive director of the foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Florida, "For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle. To render December 21, 2012 as a doomsday..."she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in." (this quote from USA Today).

As we move into 2012, many of you will be noticing your psychic abilities increasing. More of you will be experiencing precognitive flashes and prophetic dreams. Greater intuitive and healing abilities will be emerging. We wrote our book Psychic Intelligence to assist you in understanding and developing your intuitive gifts in the coming years. You will be opening your hearts to higher levels of connection as you discover more meaning and wisdom in your personal experiences and relationships. Many of you will be tuning into your feelings, and awakening to a deeper sense of inner fulfillment that relies less on the material trappings of the external world.

We truly believe that with prayer and intention, we can survive and thrive as a planet, and emerge stronger as a people, more interconnected and aware than ever before.

Ready for liftoff... and we'll see you in the future.
