Winter weather fans are waking up to an all white wonderland this morning as old man winter conspired with Lake Michigan to drop anywhere from 8 to 14 inches of snow on Southwest Michigan overnight. An army of plows and salt trucks are digging out of the first big winter blast of the season. Berrien County Sheriff's dispatch said roads were snow covered and treacherous this morning, but no major problems or accidents had been reported. Yesterday (Friday) afternoon, however, 30 to 40 cars were involved in crashes and slide-offs on I-94 in Van Buren County between 70th street and CR 687. Heavy snows and low visibility the culprits. East bound 94 was closed for over two hours Friday afternoon to deal with the mess. Several people were treated for minor injuries.

It's the first big blizzard this season around here. It's interesting how it came on the 1st day of the year.
