The fact that there are astral implants and microchips shows that you have an astral body (all the time) that can be implanted. But you have this body also when you are not aware of any astral travel.
You wouldn't believe who I see in the astral sometimes. 
Simply said, in general there are 3 kind of realms: Hyperspace (Spiritual World), Astral and Physical.
All these realms have subdivisions.
Esoterically the Astral World acts as a photo-negative of sources in Hyperspace.
Every thought made in Hyperspace has his negative counter-part in Astral which again can be projected in Physical the way the thought was first made.
Everything physical has also an astral body, and every astral body has its original architect in hyperspace.
The dangers with astral realms is, astral energies are interchangable (to some free conditions like oversoul levels allowing this) with each other, which can manipulate physical reality. And interchangeability gives room for manipulation of astral bodies and realities.
If the power of manipulation is very strong and protection is weak (i.e. with the help of Black Magic, bad fate/mind-pattern, drugs, alcohol or Electronic Technology) it is more difficult to neutralize these manipulating energies, so possesion really is possible.
Very simply said; in general the manipulation via the astral level acts like this:
1) Break the will of a person via fear, bad sleep, bad food and above all guilt etc, so the active help of angelic energies are voluntarely stopped. This is the weakening of the consciousness of a person.
2) damage or break the auric protection shields of a person (which are both based in the astral and hyperspace realms);
This is done by giving drugs, alcohol, sex, abuse, violence, bad music, electro-smog etc, and above all by negative thinking/manipulated thinking. This is the basic purpose of Mind-Control.
3) there is room for invasion by negative entities (living in the astral realm), which only have to be invoked and given their victim, because the gates of the protection shields of the victim (in the astral body) are opened. This is the core of Black Magic rituals or electronic astral implants.
4) The (negative) astral entities or artifical electromagnetic entities come in and stay or are stealing vital energies from the victim to feed themselves or to feed the controller of the rituals/technology. This is possession or a bad form of hypnotic trance.
With these points in mind it's easy to understand that with the high-technology available these days, manipulation is very easy, like with remote control instead of using complex Black Magic Rituals.
The only way to protect yourself is going to the highest level of creation:
Free will, hyperspace and using the angelic connections/oversoul.
