Please Lord, not the bees
#1
Interesting and lengthy article on the bee situation. Here is a snip from the middle - if interested in this story I suggest a look at the entire article.

I’m on an organic beekeeping list of about 1,000 people, mostly Americans, and no one in the organic beekeeping world, including commercial beekeepers, is reporting colony collapse on this list. The problem with the big commercial guys is that they put pesticides in their hives to fumigate for varroa mites, and they feed antibiotics to the bees. They also haul the hives by truck all over the place to make more money with pollination services, which stresses the colonies.

Bee Swarm Shuts Ark. Hospital's ER
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A swarm of bees clustered outside the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center shut down the emergency room Monday, as officials waited for a beekeeper to come vacuum up the 7,000 insects.

Although no one was stung, the Little Rock emergency room still decided to be closed for ambulance traffic.

"We'll take walk-ins, but ambulances are being diverted to other hospitals," UAMS spokeswoman Andrea Peel said.

Doctors did not see any patients with bee stings, but emergency room physician Dr. Delaney Kinchen said it was an important precaution to close the ER while clearing out the bees.

"I've been stung thousands of times and never had any problems, but I know people who've been stung twice and almost died," he said.

Beekeeper Harvey Johnston arrived Monday afternoon to remove the beehive.

"Somewhere around here was a beehive that got overcrowded," he said. "When bees get crowded, (the queen) leaves and takes a portion of the bees with her."

The emergency room reopened shortly after 2 p.m., Peel said.

Last week my neighbor told me i had a swarm of bees in my front yard tree.  Yep, a big pile of bee's in the tree clingin onto one branch.  Our neighbor even knew of a bee man - bee keeper-, Really nice man who came right out and Vacuumed up the Bee's.

Hey i even have photos!  :)

Ummmm Im a little allergic to bees so the pix not all that good since I stayed away and zoomed in with a small camera.      The cars were just passer bys Rubber necking.    hehehe

The Bee man was very knowledgable and told us what to do if a bee lands on you or even stings you.   He told me not to run but as a bee landed on me i Ran......  He also said that of lately the bee population has almost all but gone away and he does not know why.   Later that night on HBO, Bill Maher show, Bill mentioned that Cell phones would (Almost kill bees?) I know he said cell phones were not good for bees then why are we using them?  I must of been running from a bee when he said this??  :)

Hey, since you gave that guy all those bees, the least he could do is give you some honey. [Image: 74.gif]

Nice photos. It's always interesting to see how a member's place or face looks. When the bee keeper said not to run when a bee lands, did he mean the bee will go away after it's done stinging you?

William, that’s interesting that you had a tree full of bees. It makes me wonder how you attracted that situation. Need a symbolism expert to jump in here. I read a bunch of theories about the bees and I don’t think its cell phones or ELF because organic growers aren’t reporting any problems. So that makes me think it’s pesticides that are causing the problem.

Cool pics... :)  I love seeing your street all bloomin' and green and bushy with leaves.

Why are the bees dying?  I'm not sure either.  Last year there were flocks of birds dropping dead too.
