If a woodpecker is pecking away on your house(not good) it can be loud:?. yes sometimes it can be loud depending on the tree , it's location and the what kind of woodpecker. We have 3 or 4 different kinds.. . the plieated is the biggest and can make some noise .
Thanks for the link.I'm a geeky bird watcher:)
I know we are way off topic but.... on the river in warmer weather we have great blue herons. They fly over to the wetland perserve just a mile west of us quite often so I placed a heron weathervane on the corncrib in their honor. Osprey and hawks are common and there is an occasional kestral and golden eagle. Last spring I was excited to witness a bald eagle fish from the river. They were endangered but have made a strong comeback.

We have sooo many birds here it 's lengthy to name them all . We have the goldfinch and indigo bunting, which are just gorgeous as you say DT. Do you see them in the winter? My least favorite are the ever present starlings! If you ever get a chance DT you'll see how the smaller birds gang up on the hawks and chase them away.
I like barnswallows because they herald spring and they are sociable.

I hope you get to see the mountain lion. Not many people actually see one in the wild which is why they are known as the "ghost cat".If they do it's usually a fleeting glimpse as they are running off. Even the U.S Fish and Wildlife gal that was here over the holidays has never seen one in the wild and she is stationed in well known mountain lion populated Montana and Wyoming. The one I saw just strolled by. A neighbor swears he saw a black one along the road over the holidays.

On another note AJ.. I met a local man who used to live on my property. He has a huge collection of fossils and relics he found over time. In that collection are pure quartz crystal arrowheads. I'd never seen any pure quartz crystal arrowheads before.
