The Planets 12/12/2012...No Alignment

If it is seen from earth this way I wouldn't call it hype and as iqhunk pointed out they were talking about galactic alignment.

That date, hm. According to leading Mayan scholar, Carl Calleman, the long count of the Mayan Calendar finishes on 28 October 2011. In his book, he also dispels the myth that the Earth will align with the galactic centre on 21-12-2012. More like a few thousand years from now.

Which really does beg the question, why has this date been made significant?

 Most astronomers take issue with the  galactic alignment as well.

I don't know why people focus on alignment when talking about 2012. I think the solar maximum is more of a concern than the alignment.

I  agree Richard. NASA warned about the solar maximum back in  March 2006.

True, NASA and other scientist has been warning about this for years. This is something that can cause havoc here. Whether the planets align or not isn't going to cause any problems. I know the solar storms will cause a lot of problems but I have to admit it will be fun to see people who are addicted to cellphones go crazy. For them it will be the end of the world. icon_lol

To be clear  the NASA reports used potential and possible.

Much of the doom factor is based on the strongest solar solar  of record called the Carrington Event  which occurred in late August - early September 1859.

Such a storm today could disrupt  the elecrtical grid  for sometime.  An early warning system and a stockpile of critical components is called for .
