Supporters of President Donald Trump gathered outside several state capitol buildings in various U.S. states on Sunday, some of whom were armed, but despite FBI warnings of potential violence leading up to inauguration day, most of the demonstrations remained calm with some groups leaving in various states after a few hours. Some states, however, saw no protesters at all.
From Pennsylvania to Texas, Ohio to Michigan, capitol buildings saw increased security, with National Guard and military members stationed outside less than two weeks since Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6.

More than a third of state governors had called out the National Guard to help protect their state capitols and aid local law enforcement officers, with some issuing states of emergency. Some capitol buildings have also been closed to the public until after the inauguration of Joe Biden on Wednesday.
Though the protesters were heavily armed with assault rifles, bulletproof vests, and more, the demonstration was peaceful. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that there was no violence and no arrests have been made.
The large number of firearms on display was legal as Ohio is an open-carry state, meaning licensed owners may display their weapons in public.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine had already confirmed the deployment of some 580 National Guard soldiers to secure government buildings in the state leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Furthermore, security measures have been stepped up in all 50 state capitols amid the FBI warning of possible armed protests in the aftermath of the attack on the US Capitol during Biden’s election certification by Congress.
