As Western Journalism reported, Donald Trump has made what some consider an ominious warning about what might happen if a brokered Republican National Convention results in him not receiving the party’s nomination.
“I think we’ll win before getting to the convention, but if we didn’t I think you’d have riots,” Trump predicted. “I’m representing, many, many millions of people….many Democrats and Independents. Now, if you disenfranchise those people…I think you’d have problems like you’ve never seen before.
Without elaborating on his prophecies he did say, “I think bad things would happen, I really do. I wouldn’t lead it, but I think bad things would happen.”
Now, one of Trump’s campaign advisers is echoing Trump’s comments made just a few days earlier. Sam Clovis, a national co-chair for the Trump campaign, told CNN, “I will tell you this. If the Republican Party comes into that convention and jimmies with the rules and takes away the will of the people, the will of the Republicans, and the Democrats and the independents that voted for Mr. Trump, I will take off my credentials, I will leave the floor of that convention, and I will leave the Republican party forever.”
CNN host Alisyn Camerota quickly responded to Clovis saying, “But it’s not jimmying with the rules if he doesn’t make it to 1,237 (delegates needed to secure the Republican nomination).”
Camerota then quoted Trump’s earlier promise that if he got close to the 1,237 and then wasn’t given the nomination, riots would result, and then offered the suggestion that Trump himself would then be jimmying with the rules by rioting.
Clovis responded by stating traditionally, if a candidate gets close to the 1,237 delegates needed, out of grace the Republican Party usually confers the nomination to the candidate. But Clovis conceded, “The rules are the rules…If a person doesn’t get to the 1,237 threshold, there are rules and the rules ought to be followed, I don’t think anybody is saying any different.”
