Bush Orders DOJ to Probe Ohio Voter Registrations

By Jason Leopold
The Public Record
Friday, October 24, 2008

Published in : Nation/World

In a déjà vu moment from Campaign 2006, President George W. Bush again is asking his Attorney General to launch an investigation into the registration of hundreds of thousands of new voters, many of whom are expected to vote Democratic.

Bush forwarded to Attorney General Michael Mukasey a Republican request that he intervene in the battleground state of Ohio to force 200,000 new voters to either verify the information on their registration forms or cast provisional ballots, which are often thrown out after the voter leaves the polling place.

Similarly, two years ago when Bush feared Democratic victories in congressional races, the President “spoke with Attorney General [Alberto] Gonzales in October 2006 about their concerns over voter fraud,” according to a Justice Department Inspector General’s reported released earlier this month.

In 2006, the White House and some congressional Republicans also put pressure on the Justice Department and U.S. Attorneys around the country to bring last-minute indictments against pro-Democratic voter registration drives.

Georgia Plans To Hand-Copy 10,000 Flawed Absentee Votes Onto New Ballots
By: malterwitty

This onerous process is both costly and laden with potential mistakes or outright fraud. It begs for a simple and obvious solution — hand count the ballots instead of transferring the votes. It can only be assumed that state law prohibits a hand count. However, there must be some emergency exceptions available to avoid the ridiculous solution of hand-copying votes to the equally ridiculous problem of a poorly conceived ballot.

Voters say they were duped into registering as Republicans
By: malterwitty

Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country.

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed.

I tried it 2 or 3 more times more lightly with the poll worker watching & still nothing lit up. The poll worker then touched it for me twice — nothing lit up. The GAO had warned that there would be some pretty massive e-voting problems this year, as election officials were not properly trained on the already problematic machines, so it should come as little surprise that over in West Virginia, the "early voting" procedures have resulted in numerous complaints that the e-voting machines selected the wrong candidate. The scenario is depressingly similar to the one that The Simpsons predicted, where the voter selects one name, and the other one shows up as highlighted.

Turley: 'GOP challenges look like suppression'
By: malterwitty

The McCain campaign's allegations of voter fraud "look like" an attempt to suppress voting in battleground states, said a professor of George Washington University.

Professor Jonathan Turley said there is an "uncanny similarity in term of timing," drawing a comparison with voting scandals shortly before the previous two presidential elections.

"I think it is fair to say that some of these challenges do look like suppression efforts," Turley said in an interview on MSNBC. "So I think there is really grounds to be concerned here."

Votes being stolen from Obama in Early Voting
By: malterwitty

I have to point out the pattern of voting "glitches" that have been reported so far with early voting. People in several states now have noted that when they cast a vote for Obama, it has switched to McCain. Not once have the votes flipped in the opposite direction. If there were simple error, we'd expect to see mistakes in both directions. But, just as with the errors in 2004, the only votes that have been seen flipping have gone from the Democratic presidential candidate to the Republican one.

Just a reminder that voter registration and  the act of casting a vote are two different things. To  cast a vote in the state of Ohio one has to show an acceptable form of ID and signature must match.  So someone may actually  get away with registering their dog but when that dog went to cast a vote he has to have acceptable ID and can't have already voted.:D

Stealing votes via technology is a whole other ball game.
