Inside the splendid Ieronimus Cathedral, built by Episcope de Salamanca in 1102 A.D., among the fascinating carvings of mythical animals and saints, we find ââ¬â NASA Astronautââ¬Â¦
Maybe they entered some time portal while on the Moon, and ended up scaring medieval builders in Spain? Probably just a modern addition by the mischievous restoration team.
Yeah, that's a LITTLE too close to our technology...that's an American from NASA for sure!
Was this a joke? Was it really there in the 1100's? Could the restoration team have done such a brilliant job without getting caught by their supervisors?
The stone with the astronaut looks new in comparison to its neighbors. The surrounding stones in the area look slightly darker, more aged in color and show signs of age such as pitting. The astronaut stone looks smooth and bright and new.
Also, all of the ancient pictures of what appear to be astronauts do not look exactly like a modern NASA astronaut as this does. I suspect the restoration team had some fun.
Photoshop......If you go to the site and look at some of the pics, you can tell that it's been cut and pasted. I suspect this is why the rest of the building looks darker than the astronaut.
"Its main entrance consists of 3 arcs, each leading to the 3 naves (sections) of the church. All three are richly carved.[2][/sup] Among the ornate carvings on the facade is the incongruous likeness of an astronaut floating in space. The astronaut was carved in recent years."
Also a person named zildjianmun who posted here says they have been to this cathedral and seen the astronaut:
"yeah. i actually visited this cathedral when i went over to spain earlier last year.
the tour guide said that they repaired that bottom portion of the cathedral and added the astronaut as kind of a joke. there is also an ice cream cone carved into the building several feet from the astronautââ¬Â¦
i touched that astronautââ¬Â¦"
There is this guy on the nets I like to read, Goro Adachi, and he talks of a lot of NASA symbolism --like with their mission patches -- on his site. NASA is very significant in how it fits in with his time codes. The reason I'm bringing this up is .... and this is only my opinion.... lol.... I don't think the astronaut was added as a "joke". I mean, I don't doubt the astronaut is there, but there's got to be some heavy symbolism adding this to a national monument. I can't help it, I'm a conspiracy theorist. icon_nixweissicon_3zauberer

Eh......... not really. I am looking for more info on the astronaut. I might work up the nerve to ask Stewart or Goro for an opinion. Questions that seem to not be able to leave my mind is: is this a NASA astronaut or an ancient astronaut that visited the earth long ago? What is the symbolism intended? Or is any symbolism intended and it really was all a joke? Why are rabbits, pigs, an ice cream cone and gargoyles also on the pilars of this cathedral? Should I have read that new Oprah book about "The Pillars of The Earth" to help me understand more about cathedral builders and what they mean to convey in their art? See that "hose" like thing the astronaut is holding on to? -- is that holding him into the cathedral 'trapping him' or is that just part of his oxygen supply?
Uhhhhhh... no worries, just a normal day in the life of my brain.
