Watch the Skies! Here Comes Birdzilla!

Not that I'm aware of William. Werewolves are a bit thin on the ground in Australia. But I think every country/continent has its own share of strange and fascinating creatures of mystery.

Quote:What the hell drags away a dead giant lizard?

Another huge Lizard.

If these Lizards do exist they obviously do so in a much hidden manner.  They normally keep well clear of areas inhabited by man and may well have their own 'dying field' as Elephants do.  Perhaps one of his own kinds dragged him back to 'their' dying-area so he could no longer be found by man.  I have also heard of other such similar stories of enormous lizards living in Australia and which bullets had hardly any effect on them.  What people MUST realize is the enormity of the Australian landscape.  If South Texas has over 80,000acres of uninhabited land, and it is enough to hide a species of bird the likes of which they speak of, then Australia would have enough uninhabited remoteness to support so many similar creatures that it wouldn't be funny.  Even an entire lost civilization still being alive and well somewhere in outback Ozz cannot be out ruled, let alone a few hundred species of massive creatures the likes we do NOT normally see.  There are MANY uninhabited areas of LUSH green growth and trees in way-outback Australia along its coastal fringes that would take DAYS to fly over using a helicopter going at full speed... in any direction from its centre.  It's anybodies guess 'and then some' as to what could possibly inhabit such vast and totally untouched and unvisited areas that are more than capable of support massive numbers of creatures that are bigger than elephants and giraffes.  So huge lizards and marsupial lions and more can NOT be out ruled entirely.  Nor could species of human that we don't even know exist anywhere else on Earth... such is the scale of Australia's remote vastness.  An entire hidden world could be out there in complete and intentional hiding from known mankind... and that excludes the near countless Islands surrounding Australia that are also uninhabited and have never been visited or if they have they were only touched on very briefly and left alone.  Many islands exist that have mountainous terrain on them so rough that even a helicopter cannot go near it in fear of massive updrafts.  Even there it is possible to find things in existence which we know nothing about.

If I were to guess at what this bird is that the people have sighted I'd it is a Thunderbird whose face took on a human like appearance in the mind of the totally shocked observers.  When most people are confronted with such 'truths' they can lose their sense of visual perception very fast.  Red Indians have warned of the return of Thunderbird as being yet another sign of 'end of times'.  Perhaps the illuminati have decided it time to start slowly releasing them into public view so as to keep their predictions 'true' in state?

Another creature I personally believe exists which to date has been considered folk lore is the massive oceanic squid that we see old pictures of them devouring men and capsizing an entire ship.  The ones which have been captured in nets by professional fishers in Ocean waters are IMO the juveniles of this species as the fully matured specimens would simply sink the ship as they tried to haul a net up with one in it.  Many a seaworthy netting ship has been known to suddenly and mysteriously disappear during calm weather while netting.  There maybe more to these disappearances than meet the eye.

Quote:Giant squid are carnivorous mollusks that have a long, torpedo shaped body. At one end, surrounding a beak-like mouth strong enough to cut through steel cable, are five pairs of arms.

Quote:The Brunswick was a 15,000 ton auxiliary tanker owned by the Royal Norwegian Navy. In the 1930's it was attacked at least three times by giant squid. In each case the attack was deliberate as the squid would pull along side of the ship, pace it, then suddenly turn, run into the ship and wrap it's tentacles around the hull. The encounters were fatal for the squid. Since the animal was unable to get a good grip on the ship's steel surface, the animals slid off and fell into the ship's propellers.

Quote:How big can a squid get? Estimates based on pieces of carcasses found in the bellies of sperm whales range up to one hundred feet. One unconfirmed story, though, suggests they might get even larger. One night during World War II a British Admiralty trawler was lying off the Maldives Islands in the Indian Ocean. One of the crew, A. G. Starkey, was up on deck, alone, fishing, when he saw something in the water:

"As I gazed, fascinated, a circle of green light glowed in my area of illumination. This green unwinking orb I suddenly realized was an eye. The surface of the water undulated with some strange disturbance. Gradually I realized that I was gazing at almost point-black range at a huge squid." Starkey walked the length the of the ship finding the tail at one end and the tentacles at the other. The ship was over one hundred and seventy five feet long.

Quote:Sperm whales, thought to be the mortal enemy of the Giant Squid, have been found with sucker scars on their skin, indicating a battle with squids reaching to lengths of up to 100 feet. Other whales have been found with tentacles in their stomach that are terrifyingly long, once again indicating an extremely large squid. An interesting fact involves a Soviet Whaler. In 1965, the men on board observed a battle between a Sperm Whale and a Giant Squid. The battle proved disastrous for both participants as they were found a day later in a tangled mess of tentacles and whale. The long arms of the squid had strangled the whale, but the squid's head was found inside the whale's stomach.

I once read an article that I have not been able to find on the inet about a US Frigate held hostage by a giant Squid that grabbed a hold of it and rendered it immobile in the middle of the Pacific.  After pentagon officials inspected the vessel they declared this enormous creator an official Risk to the National Security of the USA and ordered the entire vessel be quickly emptied of vital equipment and all personnel and that it be filled with C4 explosive and disintegrated.  Which is what happened in the end thereby ‘supposedly’ killing the stubborn squid which had a hold of it and refused to let it go for almost a week before they detonated the explosives.  The whole matter has been ushered under the carpet since but must still exist in top secret US Navy archives.  Which I have also been told hold stories of other unknown massive creatures of the deep that did similar things to massive Naval vessels in the past.

The world maybe a small place when it comes to our day to day lives, but it’s also a massive place containing things which we not only know little about, but also things we have no idea even exist and are mach larger than all our known creatures that dwell the planet.

Great stories AndrewX, now I know why I didn't become a sailor or fisherman.
In 1975 a US patrol boat was off the coast of central America when its sonar went blank, the ship had seemingly hit something.
After it was put into dry-dock, they found teeth in the metal ball of the sonar device.
No one knew what the teeth belonged to until a marine biologist visited the natural history museum containing fossilised remains of a Megaladon, an ancient shark from millions of years ago, which grew to around 100 feet long...
Gulp!
