Whale And Dolphins
#1
So here is the thread :big grin:.  I could use a little pick me up today and this should do it.

My dolphin and whale stories:
My first interaction with a dolphin was when I was very small, at a marine park in the odd location of somewhere close to Pidgeon Forge, Tn.  I kid you not.  Anyway, during the dolphin show they always picked someone from the audience to come down and take a coin out of the dolphin's mouth.  This time they picked me.  I was so entranced watching the dolphin swim I never even heard them call me over the loud speaker.  My mom had to shake my arm and tell me to go down.

I couldn't believe I was going to get so close to this amazing thing.  When I got there, the dolphin and I looked at each other eye to eye (he/she had come up partly out of the water at the side of the tank to give me the coin, and I was very small lol), then I started petting it.  It seemed to really enjoy it and showed no sign of leaving, and the man over the intercom kept telling me to take the coin, but for me there was no sound, no other people - just me and that dolphin.  I guess I would have stayed there the rest of the day if my mom hadn't finally come down to me and tell me to take the coin from it.

Later in my 20's I got to swim with two, and feed them fish and listen to them click underwater.  I was shocked at how really big they are when you are next to them in the water:shock:.  Since moving to CA most times (until recently) I always see some out in the water when I am at the coast.  That is a cool thing about living here.  I also see whales from a distance but none close up yet.  I did hear them singing  in my dream 2 years ago, but the man there told me I could only listen, that I wasn't supposed to see them yet.  When I meditate on them or listen to them they have very parental energy.  I do not think I am naturally on that frequency though.

See, I am cheered up already :big grin:

Hi Haven,

Great thread...Cool  Dolphin and whale tales:

When I was a child the original Flipper series was on the air.  I could not get enough of it.  I begged my parents for a dolphin that we could keep in the above ground swimming pool.  The "Flipper lives in a world full of wonder, under the sea", lyric to the theme song still "swims" in my head...daily.

I was 4 months pregnant with my son when traveling to Florida and I was not able to get a reservation to swim with the dolphins.  I was so ridiculously heartbroken that I cried for much of the day.  I guess the hormones didn't help...;)

I have seen whales up close once.  One swam directly underneath the boat I was in up in Cape Cod.  The enormous size of his flipper was amazing to behold.  I was struck by the trust the huge mammal had for the humans on the boat.  I could sense he felt welcome and wanted to feel the "love".  Almost like a cat rubbing against your leg...

Hi DophinGirl,
Does your son also feel a strong love of dolphins?  I grew up away from any ocean, and didn't realize how we could connect with them no matter what the geographic location until later in life.  I felt very sorry for the one at that park (Porpoise Island I think it was called) because that seemed such an unnatural place for it.

Here is a link you and others might enjoy if you haven't found it before:

You can listen to whales, recorded in the off season and live during their migration through the area.  I listened to them often with headphones while my mother visited to stay nurtured and balanced :big grin:

Still no find for an actual live audio streaming of Dolphins.

Hey there,

Thank you Haven and SI for the links.  I will make time to listen to them today.

My son is more into cars and girls theses days...I am hoping he will become more interested in things hyperspace as time goes on....;)

Hey!  I found the thread.  I looked a few times but apparently did not look well enough.

I was a big Flipper fan, too, and could have watched that show non-stop.  Of course, in later years I wondered what kind of subliminals were being broadcast in the background.  :D  I would watch reruns if they were on.

The only time I have seen dolphins in the wild was back in the early 80's when my girlfriend and I took a river cruise on the Connecticut River to Sag Harbor.  We boarded the boat somewhere south of Hartford.  The dolphins followed the boat and I was thrilled with them as they jumpred and frolicked while staying close to the boat.  It seemed they wanted to entertain us and to get our attention.  No problem for me!

I went to Mystic Aquarium in the early nineties and watched the cetacean show while there.  I was struggling with my feelings about them being captive creatures but loved them nonetheless.  I wanted to work with them and envied those who did.

I watched many shows about whales over the years but none recently.  Dolphins cause me to feel intense love.  Whales make me weep; not in a sad way but their energy plays on my emotions in such a moving way that tears come to my eyes.  I want to go live with them.  It's a home feeling, I guess.

Here is another excellent article concerning interactions between Human Beings and Cetaceans and is specifically about the experiences of Lilly Ochescu and Constatin Ochescu. http://educate-yourself.org/cn/catalinag...6.shtmlThe photographs are lovely to look as well. :smile2:

Thanks for all the links.  SI, I too have looked for live dolphin streaming to no avail.  Maybe someday

While I was in Chicago this week I tried to get my stepdaughter, husband, and myself to Shedd's Aquarium because the worse things got the more obsessed I became with getting around a lot of water, fish, and dolphins.  I was sure it would soothe down a lot of the...whatever... but, alas, a trip there did not materialize.

I will check my links again and see if I have any additional ones :unibrow:

Oh, those dolphins!  They are such delightful creatures and make me laugh out loud!  I found this at another forum

but am including the original link below because I prefer not reading web pages with a black background.  It's an old article but simply wonderful just the same.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/feature/s...14,00.html

An excerpt:

"At the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Mississippi, Kelly the dolphin has built up quite a reputation. All the dolphins at the institute are trained to hold onto any litter that falls into their pools until they see a trainer, when they can trade the litter for fish. In this way, the dolphins help to keep their pools clean."

Kelly has taken this task one step further.
