What Would John Lennon Look Like Today?
#11
Hi there William.Ian Brown was the Lead Vocalist with the Stone Roses. In my opinion the Stone Roses were one of the greatest bands ever in the world. The Lead Guitarist John Squire is also one the greatest guitarists on Planet Earth. The Ian Brown albums are as follows:Golden Greats Music of the Spheres Solarized Unfinished Monkey BusinessAll of them are excellent albums however Golden Greats and Music of the Spheres are the best two albums Ian Brown wrote.Take care.

My current favorite band are an underground group of lads that have not had much mainstream exposure...funny that.:big grin:

They have been around for over a couple of decades but took a long break a few years ago and then returned.  They are the only band I know of (and I know a few)  who have returned after a 'break-up' type departure from the scene, and came back sounding better than ever.

They have been leading edge in the progress of rock & roll as we know it today and admired and have influenced such artists as:

U2

Guns & Roses

Bon Jovi

Van Halen

Pearl Jam

AC/DC

DavidCoverdale Whitesnake

Dave Mathews Band

Kenny Wayne Sheperd

...and the list goes on and on...

Many aspects and riffs that were originally developed by 'this' band can be heard in many pockets of the music written and played by all the abovementioned artists.  They have a huge underground following worldwide and have played many concerts on different continents including Brazil, Argentina, America and Europe where over 200,000 people attended.  They have there own 747 and huge LearJet to transport themselves and their equipment worldwide.

Yet it amazes me how so few people in mainstream exposure have still NOT even heard of them.  Their loss I assure you, but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that in their latter years they have steered towards playing some quite heavy(NOT METALLIC) hi-octane rock and roll...or as they say, "Music without fear".  They are very anti-system which no doubt adds to their lack of mainstream exposure.

I have loved many a good band in my time, many an outstanding and highly professional line-up of musicians...but none have touched me in the manner in which this band has.  They are extrodinary to say the least, though it did take numerous listenings of them before I became a hopeless addict to their vibration and dimension.  All new and good things take time to sink in, especially in the realm of arts.

Nicholas Cage the actor, and many others call them the greatest rock band of our times...and I triple it.:big grin:

They are simply known as 'The Cult'.

...and boy, do they use alot of occult symbolism.:unibrow:

One last point...When John Lennon was alive, he attended many of their gigs in the USA and was but another fan of The Cult.

Rock on.

Avatar,  OK...  At first i thought ian brown was in stone roses but his web page thru me off.   Now i understand.  So i do have most of stone roses music and now know who ian brown is.  But i must get his solo stuff as i was impressed.    Thanks so much for the information.

Hells bells,  I never thought of the Cult as an underground band only because ive always listened to them and have most of their stuff.  I have a large music collection because my wife worked in the music chain in our early life and i met her because of music i guess.  I have a Cult poster on one wall in my house.

One band that im very impressed with also is a group called Porcupine Tree.

Sorry,  I did not mean to drag the original post away from JOhn Lennon - The band XTC has many Beatles sounds in them.  And Oasis is beatle-lish.

Groovy man :unibrow:

Hi William,

Good to hear form another Cult fan.  As for the 'underground' tag, I tend to term anyone whom they keep out of mainstream exposure as such.  I don't know what exposure they've had in the UK, but here in Ozz I can assure you they've been hidden with contemptable weiriness.  Our mainstream organisers ought to be charged with a criminal offense if there were any real justice.  Instead we get NewKidsOnTheBlock and the likes of mini-Wouldbe-thugs like Nelly and FatJoe.lolol  Boo-Hoo if any of them are aware of what music from soul is all about.  I don't mind artists like BrittneySpears and MariahCarey...but I refer to their tush, and not their music.:unibrow: lol  They are after all I-Monarchs/sexSlaves, so the true reason for their success is obvious.

We here have an ENTIRE generation of kids that have been brought up on 2nd and 3rd rate forms of music being played by what can be best described as ex-cons and pimps...and as for Techno-music...I won't even start.

Porcupine Tree aye??  I'm off to seek.Cool

Interestingly diverse list. Not too often you see Dean Martin and Radiohead on the same list. ;)

The House Martins are a Morrissey/Smiths rip-off band.

If you like Morrissey and the Smiths you might also like Gene and Echobelly.

Wow. I didn't know many people had even heard of Echobelly. ''King of the Kerb" is awesome.

I have some old burns here. I'll see if I can find some good Gene and put it somewhere you can download or send you the file clip.
