On parallel to that, his bread and butter secret society 'research' can be traced back in black and white to the mid 1700's.

The angle he takes is pure Leo Taxil hoax and Catholic propaganda in that respect.

Interesting, I never heard of Leo Taxil until now. I gooled it and read a little about him and it looks like I have something new to research. I'm wondering how much of what he said is true. I saw most sites saying it was all a hoax but I know there's usually a element of truth in most lies.

In very short, Taxil was a mason who denounced Catholicism in his day. He then denounced masonry and suckled up to the Catholic powers of the time and began to write anti-masonic literature. He became very popular in the corridors of Catholic power (which was immense and far-reaching at the time of Taxil's writings) and began to write in the vein that we see a fair amount of conspiragurus regurgitating today.

He used a picture of his secretary as the 'mother goddess' of masonry and wrote a lot of bollocks in her name. I.e. She controlled the 'higher' mason ceremonies etc. etc. ad nauseum.

The whole 'conspiracy' culminated in Taxil hosting an event in which the 'mother goddess' (or however he anointed her at the time) was to appear and verify all of his anti-masonic writings. (she was a bit of a star in the underground conspiracy circles for a while). The time come and Taxil stood on the stage alone and told the audience what a pack of tw*ats they were for believing him in the first place, and then detached himself from the Catholic presence.

And thus, silly conspiracies have abounded our rationale for a few centuries. Not to say that conspiracies don't exist mind you, just that we have people in place to avert our attention.

I agree with this. Everything in this world is designed to divert our attention. I have wondered if the earthquakes in Japan were planned to divert our attention because right now the press is heavily focused on that and little on anything else.

I'm always sceptical when something is over saturated in the media. I have absolutely no doubt that the UN will be heavily involved in the very near future, if they aren't already of course, and use it for the groundwork to introduce an all encompassing 'green' law.

At one point he (Icke) actually stated that 'in the beginning' there was 'God', and that 'God' created three beings (I'm paraphrasing here) and that he himself was one of those three beings. Jesus was another and I think the other was 'archangel Michael'.

I might not be 100 percent right there, but you can listen to the man yourself and he says pretty much that.
