Sariel,  Is there a large interest in ancestry among the people in your locale or area due to the reason  you stated above?

I think in general most people have a curiosity about their ancestry but given the circumstances you describe I'm curious if this has generated a heightened interest or awareness.
It's no about ancestry really, but it's about nationality. Politics are very nationalistic.

Yes I understand that but I'm curious to know if there is indeed a notable heightened interest in ancestry in your locale?

I think it's normal level, though, I know many people who were very interested including my godmother (grand-father's  sister) who taught me about during my childhood.

But also my family is not native to the locals. And those related to my family are very interested in their ancestry, so, I suppose, there we are as the family more interested in our ancestry than average.

But again, it's very relative. My father is not interested, on the contrary.
